SHIMANO SLX DC LONG TERM REVIEW! Is it worth the money?

For example, a shimano slx dc (180$) has 5 bearings but I'll be wayyyyy smoother that one of those lasting reels you see on amazon with 15 bearings (those are like 30-50$). The quality and placement of the bearings is what matters most. However, on the lower end reels (like this uglystick one) the difference in ball bearings can matter a lot.

Just like the title, looking at picking one of the ugly Stik Elite Baitcast combos on sale but found that it only had 3 bearings. I have an entry level lews laser mg Baitcast Combo and I believe it has 8 bearings? How is there such a difference? Do the amount of bearings really make a difference?

 If I had any cons about the reel it would be the drag. I wish Shimano would beef up their drag To at least 18 to 20 pounds drag. With that said I would still give it an A —

 But if blind folded I bet couldnt tell which was which casts same . Actually i find i get a little more cast distance with this than i did with the 250$ version

I second stepping up to the SLX XT... as for the rod, you can't go wrong with a St Croix Mojo Bass rod

 Unless you just throw small crankbaits, I would definitely go with at least the 7'1 medium heavy rod moderate rod (this is for primarily crankbaits) and if you throw deep divers at all I would go with 7'6 medium heavy moderate fast rod.

I'm looking to build my first combo and I've had the chance to play with some reels at the store.

I think I've landed on the Shimano SLX for it's size, price, and feel. Although, the Fuego is a close second.

My question for you all is: what rod suggestions for you all have for a Crankbait rod? I've read a medium taper or less is critical for hook sets and I've read different things about length (but it seems 7' is standard). A coworker recommended a Carrot Stick pro rod but I'm not sure I want to spend 120+ on the rod.

Shimano SLX... And which rod?

 Of all the rods I have used, these are the nicest so far. They are probably the most expensive ones I have. I don't go for top of the line, as this price range is a pretty good casting rod. I can cast all day long and not have a tired arm

I go mid tier, I have the St. Croix bass x and a lews KVD reel. Not exactly cheap but not too expensive to piss the wife off. But the sensitivity on that rod far exceeds my Berkeley cherrywood by a long shot

Rod delivered snapped in half. Replacement rod delivered snapped into 4 pieces. Terrible packing job.

Don't bother buying.  You won't get a rod that's not snapped in half.
