Best Baitcasting Reel EVER or Overhyped? Shimano Curado DC Reel Review

Awesome reel. I have it three stars on light weight because that it is not. However I still have three stars because it’s not supposed to be. Now don’t think it’s gonna feel like having a huge rock on your pole but the little extra weight is WELL worth having that breaking system inside

 I'm gonna take this jig, make a cast. Threw that thing on our 25 yards. No issues. Super smooth, really comfortable in the hand

 one is going to be the least amount of resistance, two is gonna be your braid setting. If you're throwing braids or mono, this is the setting you want to be on, Three is gonna be your fluorocarbon setting, and four that is your most breaking system that's going to be skipping. that's going to be casting light baits into the wind, so it's very easy. one through four depending on what your reel is, what your reel is spooled with, and the baits you're throwing

 So I'm going to spool these up I'm gonna show you guys some close-up shots of some of the key features. I'm gonna go make some casts and you guys keep an ear out for that. That notorious that DC Sound Let's go make some casts. Alright guys! I Spool up this first DC This Corrado DC with 65 pound max Quatro Braid I Tied on a frog and paired that up with the X Pride 7/3 extra-heavy This is a fantastic frog rod

 Conditions: skipping light baits, casting live baits in the low end, that's gonna be your setting. So let's start with 4. I'm gonna take this jig, make a cast. Threw that thing on our 25 yards

Shimano Curado 150 DC : An In-Depth Look

 That’s game over with any other baitcaster I’ve owned. The only negative I have is that the Curado DC 150 lettering came off after about 3 uses. Like it was water color paint or something cheap. Nobody’s perfect so I give it a 5 star since I’ve never caught a fish by how cool my reel looked

 However, I easily pulled out the backlash. I also hit some tall weeds accidentally on a cast and was impressed that I was able to easily get that backlash out also. That’s game over with any other baitcaster I’ve owned. The only negative I have is that the Curado DC 150 lettering came off after about 3 uses

I’ve had several low profile baitcasters, but this is my favorite performing yet. Super easy to adjust the spool brake by selecting settings 1 - 4. The spool tensioner is similarly easy to adjust because it doesn’t have to be as exact for each lure like with other baitcasters. I adjusted mine one time and just change the brake settings depending on how heavy/arrow dynamic a lure is

 I threw out a lure and let it hit without thumbing the spool to see the result. Most fisherman would tell You that line is done and you are cutting it off spool because it’s so backlashed if you do this. However, I easily pulled out the backlash. Is the curado dc worth it over the slx dc? I've heard the only major difference is the gears and I'm not sure that reeling a bit smoother can justify the price difference. 2. Is there any major reason to pick the dobyns fury over the st Croix bass x or vice versa?

 That when I learned the drag on this reel at 11 pounds suck!!!!. At $249.00 it might make a high priced crappie rig. If Shimano ever makes an upgraded drag too 15 -17 pounds let me know

To me it’s the bastard child of the line-up that just doesn’t fit in it’s price point. Lots of guys like them, but to me it’s simply a $90-$100 rod that costs $150. The butts are too short for the length and power, weight is average, and sensitivity is just adequate for its price range. At the same price or less I much prefer a Dobyns Fury, Fenwick HMG, Bass-X, or the new Abu Veritas-PLX

I currently have a 7ft Ugly Stik MH spinning (its a slightly older heavy duty version) that I primarily use for catching average size channel cats out of a pond I go to. It is currently paired with a new Daiwa Tatula LT 4000 (way nicer reel to rod ratio, I know). The reason I want to upgrade is I want something more sensitive with a faster action so I could use it to throw heavier bass lures than my main setup can handle (above 1/2 oz), as well as being able to handle moderate catfishing, guides that are meant to handle braid and finally just to own something nicer. My main setup is a St. Croix Triumph that I like quite a lot so I would like to get another St. Croix so we can start there, maybe an inshore rod? Totally open to any ideas and ask me if there's any specifics I'm leaving out.

Help me choose a new rod?

 Secondly, my lake doesn't lend well to pitching/punching that much as the bottom is so soft that a punching rig with a 1+ ounce weight simply disappears into the bottom 12" of totally carpeted weeds (where no fish actually live or reside).  So treat my review of this specific rod with a grain of salt. I can say, once again, Dobyns Fury rods have been great and I think the company is good and reliable.

Truth is, this rod acts and performs about how it's supposed to is my guess. I was hoping it to have a little faster tip so that it could also be used for casting frogs - but it's really too stiff for that (IMO). I also find that the sensitivity is not great - but this could be as I do not use heavy power rods all that often and was looking for and expecting a greater level of sensitivity.  So, it may be unfair for me to give this rod 3 stars - as it probably does exactly what it is supposed to do

Very stiff, heavy rod.

This rod has great action, comfortable to hold, fairly light, and is well-constructed. I bought the FR 705CB specifically for shallow crank-baits to medium diving crank-baits e.g. 4 foot square-bills to 12 foot divers

 The action of this rod is the high point in my eyes when retrieving the bait and setting the hook. The rod tip is quite sensitive and you can feel every bump, tick, and wiggle coming back to you through the water. Setting the hook on a crank-bait bite is desirable with this rod, it has plenty of backbone to dig the hooks into the bass's mouth while soft enough tip to allow the crank-bait to not get ripped out or stick to cover or structure you may be pulling the around.  A drawback is that the reel seat threads are very short

  The rod itself is very nice and seemingly sturdy construction. The rod, with a reel, is comfortable to hold and palm with the reel I have and is reasonably light. The rod has plenty of backbone to me and features a fairly sensitive rod tip for my purposes. With a oiled up and/or properly adjusted quality reel and thinner diameter line, it will really fire lighter baits a good distance from you
