I've looked pretty extensively at the best value purifiers in terms of cost to CADR rato and found the winners to be the Coway Mighty AP-1512HH (note: NOT the AirMega) and the Blue air 211+. These models get high ratings from consumer reports and Wirecutter as well. I have 2 of the mighties for our bedrooms and a 211+ for our living room and have been happy with them.

I'm not sure how this is so highly rated. Although it does work, more or less, for the price it really has many issues of poor design. Large rooms: Coway Mighty AP-1512HH

Smaller rooms: Levoit Core 300

Both are true HEPA, relatively affordable, and the replacement filters aren't too pricy either.

This was a great unit and it served me well running almost constantly, but just shy of 3 years, the unit began to emit a burning odor. New neighbors have moved in downstairs and they are very much into fried and heavily spiced food. Good for them but unfortunately their food smell comes in my flat and it stinks quite a bit. I’ll have an expert come in the next weeks to find where the smell comes from, but in the meantime I wanted to get an air purifier to help getting rid of these smells. I have already tested the Coway mighty but it is not really doing a great job.

I’m undecided on whether to return this purifier. On the one hand, it does it’s job. And nicely I might add. On the other hand, since I bought this to purify and create ambient noise while sleeping, I’m a little dissatisfied. Fan settings 1 & 2 are soft and mellow, almost hard to hear, and not loud ...

You can't turn off the leds on the top which is pretty annoying for sleep. The large air indicator you can turn off, but the small green ones are still bright enough to be problematic. 1. Levoit apparently is only good at marketing

2. Coway Mighty has faulty filters off late

3. Winix 5500-2 produces Ozone
