I just bought an Ugly Stik Elite. I have wanted to get a good ultralight rod since I fished on an old crappy one and had a blast reeling in juvenile salmon and a gorgeous Cutty. I have to say I am very happy with the rod so far, I have not yet had a chance to test it out, but the build quality feels excellent for the price, and it looks very smart. I paired it with an old 2500 Sienna, but I may go smaller in the future when I am not a broke boy

 But the thing is you need a fairly large sinker to get to the bottom in the sound thanks to our currents. Since I would be on a boat, there wouldn't be much casting involved. What is the largest weight I could safely put on my rod without snapping it?

 I returned the ultralight ugly stik, because sensitivity is key. The medium heavy ones I kept and am very happy with, because they are mostly for bottom fishing and for using some heavy lures.  That is why I say the Ugly Stik Elite should only be bought in Medium or Medium Heavy varieties, for bigger fish, where it is simply the best rod for the price range. Medium and Medium Heavy Ugly Stik elites can catch carp, catfish, big bass, pike, and musky

One of the best rods in the price range, but a few drawbacks.

 I have been fishing Ugly Stiks for many years now, and I still have the very first one that I bought; The elite is fourth in my collection!

 You get what you pay for with this but I will say the cork butt and grip feels very good. Honestly the only reason I’m keeping it without complaints

About what you’d expect

 I use it for crankbaits, jerkbaits, jigging, drop-shotting and drifting baits for walleye. I'll be buying more of the Elite series!

My favorite Ugly stik

 Can cast right on a dime to get into those nice spots between trees, cover, lily pads, etc. Sensitivity is amazing, can feel every little snag against weeds and rocks and eventually you get the feel for it so you just learn to keep reeling gently and almost never snag grass. Have used this for catching bullhead and trout in a rod holder just watching the tip for twitches, shows every little bite. You still get some nice fights, but the rod always lets you bring it in

 The rod can be had for $50. It is slightly more expensive than this combo, but the value is so much greater.

Pretty new to Fishing as a whole. But I’m looking to pick up my first Baitcaster combo, what do you guys think of this Rod?

  I will continue buying this reel as it is every bit as good as my much higher priced Shimano Citica.

  The drag is smooth and not jerky.  It feels good on the rod and is very ergonomic.  I will continue buying this reel as it is every bit as good as my much higher priced Shimano Citica.
