 Now then, moving over 32 is one of those things that got everybody super excited when it was first announced last year and what is it? Well, it's a little desktop synthesizer with your AK format. You can use it like this, which is with it's lovely wooden, end cheeks. It'S got a MIDI input, which is what I'll control it from for the time being. So I can plug that straight in and play it straight from my MIDI keyboard

 A input means I can boost again coming out, so I can start to clip it if I really want to get a bit funky with that, but that's nice and useful, and additionally, while we're at it. Let'S do something else here: let's take the VCO pulse without and put that into the external audio. Now what we're getting is pulse width wave and a triangle wave then modulated, there's quite a lot of stuff. You could do there with the sequencer

 Let me show you before I do that, though, I'm just going to plug the keyboard into the filter, cutoff, just to show you that it is possible to actually play the filter, I'm going to plug something into the external audio and then move it right over and We'Re going to so yes, it is possible to play the filter tracking without the oscillator in there at all right. So let's get the VCO going on the LFO here right. So the first thing I'm going to do is I take the keyboard output and I'm going to go into the vc mix. Now the vc makes is a voltage control mixer

 Point on the patch Bay - that's actually quite nifty, because that assignable patch point means that through firmware updates, they can have it do lots of different things. It'S currently got a number of functions anyway, let's take a listen to a voice, starting with a sawtooth nice for the buzz good range on it. Let'S take a listen to the square wave, Oh for a long title variation of this they're moving on to the filter. The filter is actually quite interesting

For background, I primarily make dark ambient/drone and noisy techno, and I already have a Soma Lyra-8 and an Elektron Digitone (which often assumes drum duties—it's awesome for that).   I can't get past having separate sequences as parts to a song. It always feels disconnected and hard to polish a full track.  I feel like Ableton *might* help with seeing a track laid out and help with mixing but I'm worried it would add a whole new huge layer of complexity when I'm already still trying to figure out so much.  So would it be easier to work inside a DAW when it comes to mixing and song structure?  Did I mess up by starting to learn music dawless?

 It sounds awesome. One could wish for a second oscillator like the Minitaur, but then the price would be a bit more too. Since it's Eurorack compatible, you can add another oscillator if you are going to use this in a skiff and build on it with other modules. If you want a bass synthesizer though that is stand alone, then perhaps the Minitaur is the way to go

 You know just the fact alone that the synth sounds so good by itself makes me a little bit sad that they've included this effect section, because i feel like it would have almost been better to not have any effects and then just reduce the price. Now the final thing i want to talk about is uh the overall quality of the build and, of course, the elephant in the room, the price of the ob6. Now you know, obviously this is a very expensive synth in uh, where i live great white north of canada. This synth costs almost 4 500 canadian dollars new

 Now, as you know, with anything the more time you spend with something with an instrument, the more you start to find little quirks and idiosyncrasies that maybe you know, aren't exactly the absolute best design choices now. Thankfully, the ob6 doesn't have too many of these, but there are a couple one. I really think the implementation of the mod wheel is kind of frustrating on this synth. You know, let me know in the comments, if there's a different way to do this, but a very common thing with synth is to make the mod wheel open up the filter cut off now with the ob6

synth so to start out probably one of the most  

striking things about the ob6 uh in comparison to 
the new ob x8 or any other oberheim that's ever  

been released is it's really a hybrid between 
the prophet series of sins from sequential  

and the oberheim series of sins from from tom 
overheim of course now you know the oscillator  

heritage it is a little bit different 
than the prophets but it's much more  

close to something like a profit six than it is 
to any of the previous oberheims the continually  

variable wave shape between the oscillators 
and the addition of a sub oscillator that to  

my knowledge is something that is you know taken 
directly from the profit 6 and has never really  

appeared on an oberhand before the other thing 
that i think is really cool about the ob6 and  

basically adds a ton of versatility to an oberheim 
synth that probably wasn't there traditionally in  

the past is the addition of the prophet series 
cross modulation now previous oberheims they  

were always traditionally a little bit 
limited in their modulation capabilities  

whereas with the ob6 even though i tend to use the 
polymod more sparingly you can have a whole bunch  

of different textures through extremely high audio 
rate cross modulation that you're not really going  

to be able to get on a traditional oberheim 
synth i'm super curious to see if the ob x8  

will have anything similar to this let me know in 
the comments below if you know anything like that  

that's coming up on the x8 but yeah as for the 
ob6 that's absolutely one of my favorite things
