 The six hundred and fifty dollar XD looks very similar to the original mini log. It'S got the same metal front, plate wooden back minimal black knobs and lightly textured switches as the rest of the line. It'S a design, that's quickly becoming iconic, and it doesn't just look great. It feels great too

 I'Ve only had it a few days and have mostly been playing with the presets, but the sheer range of tones you can get is simply stunning. If you need proof just check out the music playing now, it was made entirely with the mini log XD, including the drums. The only external processing I did was to add a little compression and EQ enabled [ Music ] Gorga's landed on some sort of magic formula that many of its competitors simply haven't figured out yet and when it comes to bang for your buck analog since there's still The company to be [ Music, ], you [, Music, ] 

 It'S a design, that's quickly becoming iconic, and it doesn't just look great. It feels great too. The knobs and switches are satisfying and they feel like they were harvested from the sort of tank like since companies built in the 70s. The only real knock here is the keys just like the original mini log

Korg Minilogue XD Review

 Somehow, I’m beginning  to wonder if the JD-08 isn’t the more interesting synth out of the two  new boutiques (and, as already mentioned, I’m really interested in this  form factor so there are few other options for me in this case). It just  seems like the JD-08 is sparkling a bit more, while still having the  ability to produce retrowave-compatible sounds.

* If I have batteries inserted and power it through usb-c, I would  expect it to seamlessly switch from usb-c power to battery if I unplug  the USB cable. Instead, it just shuts down. I lost a sound design in  process as a result of the USB cable coming loose, despite batteries  inside.

* The form factor is really neat. The build quality is great. It’s  heavier than I thought and perhaps not as easy to use on the lap unless  you have a healthy back and neck of a 20-year old (I’m not one of those  anymore, I’m afraid!), but the fact that it’s battery powered and can be  powered by usb-c is amazing and makes it so easy to plug and play. I  have a small pair of wired 3

5mm earbuds that I keep connected to it all  the time. It’s small enough that I can keep it in my narrow little  bedside table drawer, meaning it’s always close by when I feel like a  quick jam. The faders move a little too easily for my taste, but they’re  very responsive and accurate, so in practice they’re a joy to use.

 And you don't have to connect a myriad of costly external effects units. This is one of the reasons I chose the Minilogue XD over the original Minilogue. Synth aficionados online may claim that these effects are not high quality enough, but this is an exaggeration - the built-in effects sound incredible. On the Moog Grandmother there's an authentic spring reverb tank for analog reverb

 - When using a particular program/preset, none of the physical knobs reflect the current state of the synth. However, it's not intuitive that you have to press Shift + Play for the "panel load function". While I understand that this is a limitation of an analog synth with built-in programs, I feel that there should be a dedicated "panel load" button. Certainly, it should be mentioned in more than just a subsection in the hard-to-locate online-only PDF manual

  Is it perfect? No. I would love more voices, a full filter envelope generator, maybe another LFO, 24db/octave ladder filter for a meaner filter sweep. Does it sound like a Matriarch or OB-6? Not quite. But in many respects it's so much more, for much less money

Summary: This is a perfect analog synth to get you started. Plenty of capability to keep you hooked as you advance.  - A major factor in my decision to get this synth was the excellent design. The intuitive layout of all the knobs and switches along with the display and built-in effects is simply not found in any other analog synth of this size, quality or price

Absolutely incredible all-in-one synth solution - UPDATE after 2 years

 As far as I know, and according to raw sonic capability, the Minilogue xd is the best you can buy at this price point.  (CONS) Things I don't like:  -Limited modular capabilities; if you're interested in going down the rabbit-hole of modular synthesis, you might be disappointed that the Minilogue xd has a CV in/out and sync-in/out capability for modular expansion and experimentation.  -Complexity & Potential; This point would definitely be in the "Pro" section of this review if I had more knowledge and experience. I've discovered that there's a massive learning curve to overcome when becoming familiar with sound synthesis, so this was an issue for me when I first bought the Minilogue xd

  -Waveform Visualizer; It's been an invaluable learning tool to have a visual reference for the sounds. It's probably not a selling point for those with more experience using synthesizers, but as a beginner this was a huge resource for me. It also just looks really cool, and makes the product seem more legit.  -Price Point; from reading dozens of reviews and comparisons, and talking to veteran synthesizer enthusiasts and a few industry professionals, you're not going to find too many options as powerful as the Minilogue xd for this price

That’s where the KeyStep 37 comes in. Arturia has packed this compact controller with advanced features that will supercharge your music creation process. Beyond its 37-note keyboard, knobs, buttons, and LED screen, there’s a lot of high tech under the hood that doesn’t readily meet the eye. The KeyStep 37’s velocity-sensitive keybed has aftertouch — something you typically see only on high-ticket controllers — as well as RGB LED feedback.  If you like, you'll see that when i start playing that the green notes light up to show which notes are playing, but there's a white note lit up down here on this c note here. If i change to a different position, you'll hear that the sequence will change to a different position as well. So let's play with that [ Music ]. So that's the kind of fun that you can have with this sequencer and it's great fun

 If you connect it up to a synthesizer so using the switch on the left, we can go from sequencer to arpeggiator mode. So i'll do that now and then, if we press play on the transport controls and hold a chord down on the keyboard, it'll play that chord as an arpeggio. Let'S have a look now: it's got three notes in the arpeggio, because there's three notes in my chord. Obviously, if i play more notes in the chord, then there'll be more steps in the arpeggio

 It really is built for those who need some type of solution where they want to be creating in a daw digitally, but might also want to be controlling hardware, or maybe only controlling hardware, to have a built-in sequencer on a keyboard controller. This size and this portable is really clutch, but then also being able to have a really just great feeling. Key bed that you know goes both ways can be used with the hardware and with the software again it could be a really great fit for your home studio. ARTURIA KEYSTEP 37! | 5 Reasons To Consider This MIDI Keyboard

Long story short -- I finally landed on a P5 about a year later. The verdict: I liked my P6, but I **love** the P5 and have no regrets (except perhaps that I did not get the P5 sooner). Other folks might disagree, but to me the sound is perceptibly more vivid, thick, and full; the P6 is much more prominent in the mid range and just doesn't have the same fullness. The envelopes in particular snap harder on the P5 as well -- most notably on the Rev3 filter mode -- which makes it a lot better for basses, fast arps, etc

I bought a P6 only a few months before the P5/P10 announcement. Had I waited, I would've gotten the P5 or P10. Since then, I've become quite attached to the P6. I use it almost every day. However, I think from time to time about what it would be like to sell it to get a P5, because that originally was the keyboard I dreamed of owning. But then I think about how badly would I miss all the extra features that the P6 has. I love and use the onboard effects, arp and sequencer all the time for the P6. I also love the stereo sound especially. 

For those who have wrestled with these same thoughts and sold their P6 for a P5, do you miss those extra things? Do you love the P5 so much more that there isn't any regret?
