I was looking into better alternatives and found the Korg volca but that doesn't really seem like what i want. I've read its a better sampler than a sequencer and the PO-33 has a better ability to actually make something more melodic (im new to this so if the terms are wrong pls forgive me). I also came across a thread that reccommended an elektron model samples.
Boyfriend is really into synths and I don’t know much about them, any suggestions for a synth-related gift between $100-200?
Yea I second all of these, the pocket operators may look like toys but teenage engineering makes some pretty powerful products. Honestly if I had a girlfriend and she got me one of those I’d be amped. I also second the Korg Volca, samples, etc
Can I load my own samples on to a Korg KR-55 Pro?
I would buy the second version of a Korg volca sample. it could do this and they are pretty cheap.

Korg Volcas
I would suggest getting the Korg Volca Mix. It is seriously cool and the cutoff knobs are seriously useful.

Korg volca drum is a pretty fun little box. Versatile, loads of bang for the buck and fits into all kinds of situations.
What do you need to fully use a korg volca sample 2
I'm a noob with my volca sample 2 too but I would say KORG SyncControl app for iOS is awesome as a master clock, it has tap tempo and syncs with Ableton Link. You only need to connect the audio output of your iPhone/iPad to the Sync input of the volca. Tap tempo allows me to translate the rhythm in my head to a beat instantly.

Best entry-level digital FM synths?
Korg Volca FM. I had the Yamaha Reface DX and the volca is just better all around (besides polyphony. and I'm a terrible player so it's okay)

If he loves Brian eno- I suggest a Korg Volca Fm, modeled after the Yamaha Dx7 which is one of Eno’s favorite synths. You can even put eno’s patches (think of it as digital instrument settings) on the synth. It’s a great device imo. You can usually find one at MAX 150 plus shipping on reverb, Craigslist or OfferUp.
Seriously don’t know shit about Synths. So where do I start.
Can’t go wrong with a korg volca keys. Great starter, good price, and it sounds awesome!
