 because you are supposed to sit up straight and this does encourage that.  Once again Humanscale fails to produce a chair that is useful, but to quote the designer: "I wanted to develop a task chair that would be as minimal visually as it is functional" - yes..

  Arm Rests: I think someone needs to inform Humanscale that the idea of Armrests in an office chair is that you want to have the ability to rest your elbows on your armrests...

. which increases sweat production.  Next: The "Arm rests" and "Back" of these chairs.

What the seat is made of...?  No clue.

I still prefer to buy them used since the value of many chairs drops very quickly and you can find 7/8yo chairs at 200$ instead of 1000$ new.

For less than 7/8 hours/day no, they are not worth it. You won't notice a big difference with a 400$ chair.

If the chair is really high end it won't suffer much the age because it's made to be durable. In some cases you will have to replace something but it's still cheaper than buying new.

My current chair a cheap one that I've been using for about 8 years. It is falling apart. Time for a new one. And boy, I did go down a serious rabbit hole.

After looking at a lot of reviews and threads though, I'm beginning to wonder if beyond a certain price range, like maybe $300-$400, pretty much any chair is fine as long as you like the feeling of it and you are better off just training your back muscles. Strong, trained back musculature offloads a significant amount of stress from the spine, doesn't it?

And, isn't it true that the "right" sitting position is the one that you change every so often? The spine and back muscles aren't made to sit still for long periods of time, they are made to be moved regularly, right? It just seems odd to me to turn office/gaming chairs into a science and worry about minute details while simultaneously neglecting the support your own back muscles give you.

Now I am not bashing $1000 chairs. I'm sure they have their place. But they seem overhyped to me. I don't think I'll ever need the tons of adjustment options an Aereon or Leap give me.

Or am I missing something here? I sit on my chair for many hours daily (not continuously though ... after maybe 2-3 hours max I stand up and take a break and go do something else).

Are $1000 chairs really worth it?

 Human scale has a company-wide focus on having as little environmental impact as possible, and that comes from the manufacturing process, the facilities that they use, as well as the packaging and the chair itself. [, Music ] there's a reason that the Liberty chair has become a symbol of high-end office seating. While that may be the case, it's not going to be a good fit for everyone, and it's important that we address some downsides. So we don't get you into a chair that might be a bad fit for your needs

 You can opt for height adjustable arms, which we did, but that's gon na be the extent of the adjustability on the Liberty chair. The chair does not have tension, control, tilt locks or anything like that. It is designed with a weight-sensitive reclined mechanism, so depending on your weight and depending on the pressure placed on the backrest that is going to dictate when you move back, the chair does hold itself in any position that you'd like to through the recline, but you're, not Gon na be able to control the tension or lock it in place like a lot of other chairs that we see so the chair does function well, and this goes back to Neil's difference goal in designing a minimal chair that has good functionality, so it does function. Well, but if you like to really fine-tune your chair and pick the exact spot that you want it and the exact tension, controls and you're probably going to want to look for an alternative chair to the Liberty, I think the overall lack of adjustability on the Liberty Chair becomes especially problematic when it comes to the arm rests

 There are going to be exclusions to the arm, pads, the foam and the fabric, which will be reduced to five years of coverage at single shift usage. If you're worried about assembly or installation on the number of chairs, that won't be an issue with the Liberty, it arrives almost fully assembled you just have to set the top portion of the chair on to the bottom portion, sit on it and the assembly is complete. So very quick, very easy for those of you that are worried about installations. The Liberty chair is also a nice option for those of you that are concerned with the environment

I bought this as a stepping stone between my current desk and an UPLIFT V2, which based on this experience I will certainly plan to purchase in the future.

I use a smaller, manual, workbench in a space constrained work area. This has been affordable, and also combines features such as the keyboard tray and monitor mount that I might have omitted in a full desk. It also gives me the flexibility to convert another desk in the future if I further upgrade my main office.

This is a very heavy duty, well constructed piece that you won't be sorry you spent the money on. Yes, it's costly, but this is truly a case of "you get what you pay for". Rise and lower is super smooth and you never have to worry about things jostling out of place when it is put in motion. And it's heavy duty!!
