It came with the DW Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot. Then I tried an Evans coated G1 and stopped loving the snare. Then I tried a DW Remo Coated Ambassador, and still found it hard to love the snare again.

It'll sound great if it's tuned well with decent heads. Can't go wrong with Evans or Remo. Evans coated G2 is what I have on my toms, with an Emad with the big ring on the bass drum

I absolutely love this head! i use these all the resonate heads for my toms and this go around i used it as my snare batter. and WOW!! i absolutely love the sound i get from these heads! on my snare i have it tuned about a half-step below the reso and i keep the snares on the tight side and the sound is just amazing! and with the toms, i like to pair it with a EC2 on the batter and just wow! this head is one of my favorites!!

 It chokes the sound and seems to accentuate overtones if the head is struck outside the dot. For me if I’m prioritizing durability, I would much prefer either a coated vintage Emperor or a coated regular Emperor for a much more pure versatile sound.

This is a high quality durable head, but sonically it’s just not for me. While the dot definitely adds durability, I just don’t like the sound it produces. It chokes the sound and seems to accentuate overtones if the head is struck outside the dot. For me if I’m prioritizing durability, I would much prefer either a coated vintage Emperor or a coated regular Emperor for a much more pure versatile sound

Not For Me

 I use three snares to bang on that drum and keep the head on as long as I can because I don't like changing my head that much.

Remo + Teddy Campbell: Controlled Sound Coated Bottom Black Dot Product Demo

All efforts failed to get a decent tuning on a 8 x14 Ludwig Black Magic. I tried tuning high to low and failed. I tried a 5 mil and a 3 mil snare head with no success. I even tried a new set of PureSound wires

 I have been playing drums as a hobby for 45 years and I have never had an issue tuning any drum after the initial learning curve long ago. I have used Remo heads more often than any brand and think they are great, except this model. I am sure others have had great success with this head, so, it must be me, but, I tried for hours with no luck.
