The Volca Bass is an insanely compact, powerful, and affordable "monosynth" that may surprise you with its usefulness in creating and recording music. I briefly owned a used Arturia MicroBrute, but had to return it because of a defect. That led me to look more at the overall landscape for affordable analog synthesizers (which, until quite recently, was a sentence that wouldn't have made any sense). Either you go up to the $500 range and look at something like the Novation BassStation 2 (not really an option for me), or you look at the Volca series for about half the price of a new MicroBrute

The fact that you can’t really save the actual tone and only a pattern made using it is an “aha” moment. Yet the sound this instrument generates is worth the trade off. It is juicy, deep, rich and super analog in its roundness. Often unpredictable too, in a good way

The truly irksome thing is that they sent the synth back as repaired, which it certainly wasn't, and when I questioned them an what they'd done, they'd just installed the firmware and then tested it with a midi cable into the synth, nearly avoiding the problem of a malfunctioning, poorly written or dead USB driver. Why update the firmware for USB and then tested it with a midi cable? So now I'm left with sidelining this synth of the main USB hub and acquiring a function midi to USB converter/host to drive it from one of my USB A equipped keyboards. So sad.

You will eventually damage your Volca. So please, use a headphone splitter for splitting headphone signals into two. But don’t try and invent something like ‘a backwards splitter joining two signals and yay! We have a backwoods $5 mixer!’ No…you don’t. You’ll actually need to get a real mixer with resistors and circuits designed to safely join multiple audio signals into one signal path

This is my first analog synthesizer and I'm not looking back. I always lacked is a nice low end in my tracks and always wondered why I cannot get it to sound so good like popular artists whether I use serum, sylenth1 etc. Neutron is amazing at bass sound, very nice and deep! As well as at everything else too. Filter sounds great! You will not be disappointed

Nice! The Volca Bass is surprisingly useful, and a great value. Running it through even a basic FX chain with some compression produces pretty good results.
