Sterling Music Man StingRay

So what am I going to rate the Ray-4 SUB from Sterling by Music Man? I'm going to rate this bass four claws out of five.

So in my opinion that's all you need to know about the Sterling by Music Man Sub-Ray 4 bass.

Even as the "sub brand" of Music Man it felt just as solid and well made as the American Fender. Ended up going home with the Stingray which was even discounted and turned out to be half the price of the Fender. And now a few days later I'm just thinking about it how I would have never even considered this bass because I'd been all about Fender and how I was this close a few weeks ago to just ordering a P-Bass online sight unseen and would have been oblivious to such a glorious instrument like the Stingray.

I ordered this new but noticed blemishes all over the front plate that indicated it had been used or perhaps refurbished. I wasn't concerned at the time as I figured I'm just a learner currently. Unfortunately, I have had a persistent issue with the strings severely rattling during my practice sessi...

I would recommend a music man stingray or something from the Ibanez SR range, since they have massive bridge humbuckers and active EQ circuits in them

I ordered this bass guitar two times . The first time I got , it was amazing . Right out of the box it was good. Sounded great and felt great to play. Over time it began to sound super groggy and distorted . I tried different cables , amps . It was the bass guitar . Unfortunately I had to return it....

IMO my two favorites are the mim fender mustang and the Sterling ss stingray. The Ibanez mezzo was OK but it seemed on par quality wise with the GSR 200 line of basses and they are a 32" medium scale instead of a traditional 30" short scale like the other options you are considering. I currently own the mustang and the stingray and i'd say they are both the same great quality and built like tanks.

The bass arrived with a very conspicuous chip in the paint, no way the QC person didn’t notice it, they just sent it out that way. I own a sterling by music man stingray that I paid 600 US for and a fender mustang pj that I paid 750 US for. Both sound and play great and and depending on the song I am recording I switch between them. Build quality is better on the fender but I have no issues with the stingray either although they can be hit or miss, best to try in person to make sure.

It’s not off-white like in the photos. The actual color looks like the those old “skin tone” crayons. Its very odd. A little darker and it would have been almost brown or a little lighter it would have been yellow. I sent mine back. Flesh tone was not what I wanted.
