Sonor AQ2 Stage - Review | Better Than SQ2?

I really believe that the AQ2 is a strong contender.

Looking for intermediate level drums

Since noise won't be a factor, I agree with choosing acoustic. My suggestions for mid-range kits would include Gretsch Catalina, Ludwig Neusonic, Mapex Armory, Pearl Vision, Sonor AQ2, Yamaha Stage Custom, and Tama Superstar. Shop used if you can through online marketplaces or classifieds like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or equivalent.

Super heavy-duty. I absolutely love this set. I needed something small enough to fit in our rehearsal room - and it sounds great. I own about 10 snares, this one is already at the top of the list!

I'd likely save a bit more and get a Sonor AQ2 kit. I think it's the best in the price range. Yamaha Stage Customs are also amazing sounding for the price as well. If you are set.on pdp or Tama, I say Tama.

Getting back into drumming, which mini kit should I choose?

If money were no option I'd probably be between the DWs and the Sonor AQ2. It would come down to whichever hardware I liked better and which one came in a finish I preferred. If I was on a budget I'd probably get the Sonor AQX Jungle. Whichever one you end up going for, make sure it comes with a bass drum riser for the kick pedal to attach to.

Anyone have experience with the Mapex Mars Bop Kit (or other similar compact kits)?

I have a Sonor AQ2 club kit and love it. I’ve found the 16” kick to be plenty, especially after changing out the factory head.

Looking to get a simple but good drum kit

I recommend buying in the mid range like a Pearl Export or like the Sonor AQ2 you’re looking at (I’m looking to get a Sonor as well!). Like these folks said, buy used and you can get all the hardware and cymbals included and save a LOT of money.

Best kit for $800 either new/used

I’m bias but I really like the Sonor AQ2 Bop Kit. I have vintage Ludwigs as my main kit and honestly the sound of the Sonor really blew me away. No compromises it just sounds great and the build quality is super solid.
