 What's up with you guys, it's your boy Yohan Hunter Jr., check it out, we're back once again, we're reviewing the Sonar AQ2 Safari Kit, this completes my lineup of kits that I have, this is a bittersweet thing, but check it out, there's more reviews coming, I'm going to be reviewing all kinds of stuff from Sonar. So today we're going to be reviewing the Safari kits featuring the titanium quartz finish, I love the sparkle on this and I love these sizes in particular, so let's get right into this thing. I want to preface this video by saying if you want to go more in detail about any of these kits, check out the links in the description, I've done a full review over the AQ2 line, the stage, the martini, and it's really been dope so far, so let's really dive in deep with this last kit, the Safari kit

 Crazy smooth tone, like I said wide range, I can tune this tom up extremely high to sound like an 8 and I can make this tom sound like a 12 or 10 inch, so that's the beauty of these die cast lugs. So let's dig into the snare drum, let's turn these snares off. We love this snare, let's turn these snares on, let's check this out. Alright guys so before we get into the bass drum, let's talk about this hardware really quick

 Alright let's turn these snares on. Really low and beefy, now you can tune this up like a normal jazz kick if you want to and get a higher tone, higher resonance, completely up to you, you have the range to do so. So once again the heads that I'm using are the stock heads across everything, so the stock heads come with a coated ambassador on the snare, on the toms and then you have the clear beater side head and then you have the stock back end head, resonant head with that lovely Sonar badge on there. Also I want to mention the Sonar badge on the drums in general, I just love that AQ2 badge, looks super dope, especially having that black on silver combination layout, really beautiful and love that sparkle

 So today we're going to be reviewing the Safari kits featuring the titanium quartz finish, I love the sparkle on this and I love these sizes in particular, so let's get right into this thing. I want to preface this video by saying if you want to go more in detail about any of these kits, check out the links in the description, I've done a full review over the AQ2 line, the stage, the martini, and it's really been dope so far, so let's really dive in deep with this last kit, the Safari kit. So the sizes you get with the Safari, you get a 13 by 6 inch snare, you get a 10 by 7 rack tom, you get a 16 inch kick drum, and then you get a 13 inch floor tom, I love these sizes because it's still small, but it gives me the effect of playing bigger drums, so of course the obvious perk of having the kit with this size is portability, you can load this up probably in the front seat of your two door sedan, I mean it's really that compact, it packs a punch, and I really love that about Sonar. I brought this up in a previous video, but I'll talk about it in this video as well

Sonor AQ2 Safari - Review | Vibes All Day!!!

I recommend buying in the mid range like a Pearl Export or like the Sonor AQ2 you’re looking at (I’m looking to get a Sonor as well!). Like these folks said, buy used and you can get all the hardware and cymbals included and save a LOT of money.

I had a drumkit when I was 8 until 16, then sold it and stopped playing drums.  


I'm 28 now. Recently got an electric kit (TD 17) which is great. However, some buddies are starting a band doing just fun pop punk covers etc. I'd much prefer to have an acoustic kit for that. Doesn't need to be anything that fancy or big, I would like good quality definitely.   


Where should I look? Those Sonor AQ2 look good.

Looking to get a simple but good drum kit

I’m bias but I really like the Sonor AQ2 Bop Kit. I have vintage Ludwigs as my main kit and honestly the sound of the Sonor really blew me away. No compromises it just sounds great and the build quality is super solid.

Can anyone help me fimd a new drum kit for about $800. The most I can go is probably $1000 but preferably in the $800 range. I am looking for a complete 5 piece set (shells, cymbals, &amp; hardware) but if it has more shells I don't mind. Thank you to all who help I'm advance!

What drum sets do you guys use?

First off, a 5 piece all birch shell pack for $700 is insane in itself. But the finish - I got pure white - is unbelievable. I couldn’t believe that it’s not a wrap it’s an actual finish, no cheap wrap w some big seam or anything like that.

Nothing cheap about this set except for the price. Top grade fit and finish. Ideal forgigging If you're finicky about the heads ,I replaced the BD batter with a Remo Powerstroke 3 for a more controlled sound. I bought mine new on closeout from Guitar Center for less than the price of a decent snare drum

Amazing for what you can get for under a $1K these dayys

 That's the easy part. Most of my time was spent on the last stage. Tune the batter and resonate head the same trying to keep the overtones intact. You will find 1/8 of a turn or less is required to get the heads tuned the same

 You will hit a noticeable sweet spot where the tom produces overtones (rings longer). Tune the remaining lugs in the same manner. That's the easy part. Most of my time was spent on the last stage

 You will also find 1 lug off will destroy the overtones. You will also find a very small tuning range window if you want the tom's shell to resonate like the others in this set.  If by chance you are looking to purchase this set from Musicians Friend: Beware of the free gift (cymbals) offer that comes with the set. If you buy the set expecting to receive the cymbals with your order, nix that

 The shells resonate well when the batter and resonant heads are tuned the same.  After 3 hours verse 20 min., I have been able to get the 12" tom close to resonating the shell with a nice tone. Roughly, tune the tom

 However, it would've been a five star, but the drumheads aren't the best. I'm going to have to replace them to get less ringing and more umph from the smaller tom. Also, despite all the bubble wrap, there's a giant gash in the bass drum.

Decent. Needs better heads and packaging.
