First off, a 5 piece all birch shell pack for $700 is insane in itself. But the finish - I got pure white - is unbelievable. I couldn’t believe that it’s not a wrap it’s an actual finish, no cheap wrap w some big seam or anything like that.

Buy used - Yamaha stage custom, or Pearl Export. You’ll also need cymbals, again buy used - zildjian a series, or Sabian aa series. Try and get a complete set - hi hats, 2 crash, and a ride.

They’re very well-built, good hardware, and sound awesome. I think they make them from birch now too, which is even better… Birch is where it’s at sound-wise. I’ve never heard a bad thing about Stage Customs. Yamaha are a brilliant manufacturer.

I recently bought a yamaha stage custom birch drum set which im absolutely loving so far even the with my low volume limits w/ the rtom black holes and l80s. All this except for the snare which is giving me a massive headache over how bad it sounds. Im mostly blaming the problem on the evans genera dry coated head because it just doesnt sound good with any tuning.
