 And it's a real sensitive sounding snare drum. I have it tuned up kind of high but like I said it's versatile, you can tune it down low, put a little dampening on it and you can get a totally different sound if you'd like. But it's got a nice volume bump from the edge of the drum to the center. It's sensitive in the hands and it's got a nice big cracky back beat when I want to play a simple kind of funky or kind of rock beat

 Just a little simple bolt clamps on and stays in place so you're good to go there. The sound of these drums is great. The mahogany wood with Gretches thirty degree bearing edges adds to that warm tone. Let me turn the snare wires off and play you the sound of these toms

 But first, let's get into the hardware. The hardware in this kit, really cool, very versatile and heavy duty, works really well. Got the big Gretsch gas cap on the kick drum here, holds the rack tom in place, nice and sturdy and it's a great visual feature as well. You got a ball joint and your single tom holder right here, you can also attach another cymbal arm here if you'd like to

 Do your old Gene Krupa exercises if you want to with this kit. The snare drum is really sensitive, comes with a nice ratchet style throw off while you're on the left hand side, really easy to use on and off very quickly with the snare drum wires. And it's a real sensitive sounding snare drum.  Using coated ambassador heads, just basic single ply coated ambassadors, you get a nice attack and the warmth. It's very musical sounding and a great tone interval between each drum. Great Kit

I needed something smaller and lighter without sacrificing tone and quality. I tried all the drum sets in Guitar Center. I was hoping to get The DW set but I was not that impressed with the tone VS the cost.

 Go ahead and leave me a comment below giving me your thoughts on the improvements that they've done to this kit, the finishes, the new bass drum mount. I definitely think they have upped the game for this kit while still trying to keep the price as low as possible so all of us can get it into our hands. Especially if you're looking for either a classic tone drum set or just a smaller drum set that's easy to pack up. So that's going to do it for today and as always remember if you want to stay up to date on the latest drum gear, pick up tips and tricks and look at products like we did today

 We're going to hop in the car, we're going to go right over to Hugh's house. He has a brand new Catalina Club in a very pretty finish. I'll show you pictures and video of all of the upgrades. These include things like new claw hooks for the bass drum hoops, a new tom mount which looks amazing, it looks like they have redone the tension rods, and even though I didn't get any film of it, it looks like they are doing a better job of finishing the inside of the shell as far as sanding it down and making it look really nice

 So I ended up with all three of us there with the drum set and that's what you're going to see for the sound examples. You will hear Hugh playing it himself and then you'll hear Cedric playing it, which will give you a nice variety in somebody that doesn't hit very hard and somebody that hits a little harder. And obviously because their styles are different, the drums will sound a little different as how far as they will react. Now keep in mind, Hugh is a Dixieland swing jazz type player

 Of course, there's a couple of drummers hanging out. Drummers want to come and hang. So I ended up with all three of us there with the drum set and that's what you're going to see for the sound examples. You will hear Hugh playing it himself and then you'll hear Cedric playing it, which will give you a nice variety in somebody that doesn't hit very hard and somebody that hits a little harder

 So he does tune these drums in the medium high, maybe to high range. So just keep in mind that you can go lower with the tunings. These drums in my experience and with this new version of the kit have a wide tuning range. So just keep that in mind as you see what we see on the next couple of shots

So today we're going to be reviewing the Safari kits featuring the titanium quartz finish, I love the sparkle on this and I love these sizes in particular, so let's get right into this thing. I want to preface this video by saying if you want to go more in detail about any of these kits, check out the links in the description, I've done a full review over the AQ2 line, the stage, the martini, and it's really been dope so far, so let's really dive in deep with this last kit, the Safari kit

 Crazy smooth tone, like I said wide range, I can tune this tom up extremely high to sound like an 8 and I can make this tom sound like a 12 or 10 inch, so that's the beauty of these die cast lugs. So let's dig into the snare drum, let's turn these snares off. We love this snare, let's turn these snares on, let's check this out. Alright guys so before we get into the bass drum, let's talk about this hardware really quick

 Alright let's turn these snares on. Really low and beefy, now you can tune this up like a normal jazz kick if you want to and get a higher tone, higher resonance, completely up to you, you have the range to do so. So once again the heads that I'm using are the stock heads across everything, so the stock heads come with a coated ambassador on the snare, on the toms and then you have the clear beater side head and then you have the stock back end head, resonant head with that lovely Sonar badge on there. Also I want to mention the Sonar badge on the drums in general, I just love that AQ2 badge, looks super dope, especially having that black on silver combination layout, really beautiful and love that sparkle

 So today we're going to be reviewing the Safari kits featuring the titanium quartz finish, I love the sparkle on this and I love these sizes in particular, so let's get right into this thing. So the sizes you get with the Safari, you get a 13 by 6 inch snare, you get a 10 by 7 rack tom, you get a 16 inch kick drum, and then you get a 13 inch floor tom, I love these sizes because it's still small, but it gives me the effect of playing bigger drums, so of course the obvious perk of having the kit with this size is portability, you can load this up probably in the front seat of your two door sedan, I mean it's really that compact, it packs a punch, and I really love that about Sonar. I brought this up in a previous video, but I'll talk about it in this video as well

Sonor AQ2 Safari - Review | Vibes All Day!!!

I recommend buying in the mid range like a Pearl Export or like the Sonor AQ2 you’re looking at (I’m looking to get a Sonor as well!). Like these folks said, buy used and you can get all the hardware and cymbals included and save a LOT of money.

I had a drumkit when I was 8 until 16, then sold it and stopped playing drums.  


I'm 28 now. Recently got an electric kit (TD 17) which is great. However, some buddies are starting a band doing just fun pop punk covers etc. I'd much prefer to have an acoustic kit for that. Doesn't need to be anything that fancy or big, I would like good quality definitely.   


Where should I look? Those Sonor AQ2 look good.

Looking to get a simple but good drum kit

I’m bias but I really like the Sonor AQ2 Bop Kit. I have vintage Ludwigs as my main kit and honestly the sound of the Sonor really blew me away. No compromises it just sounds great and the build quality is super solid.

Can anyone help me fimd a new drum kit for about $800. The most I can go is probably $1000 but preferably in the $800 range. I am looking for a complete 5 piece set (shells, cymbals, &amp; hardware) but if it has more shells I don't mind. Thank you to all who help I'm advance!
