[Motorola MB8611 is the modem you It has a 2.5Gbe port. If you get gigabit service, you likely will have more than gigabit service provisioned to you, and the 2.5Gbe port is the easiest way to take advantage of that.

Since we are upgrading our speeds constantly, these types of comms can come out from time to time. The Motorola MB8611 is definitely an advanced mode and able to handle our up to 1.2GBs download speeds.

For North American gigabit, you want a Broadcom chipset and 32 downstream channels; I would go Motorola MB8600 or MB8611. For the network gear, you could look at Ubiquiti UniFi or TP-Link Omada, but for utmost simplicity and stability, I would look at Cisco Business. You can get the same outcome with fewer moving parts, including an embedded wireless controller, so you forgo the extra point of dependency/failure you have with discrete controller systems like Unifi or Omada. The most simple stack would be an router/switch (wired to the MB8600/8611) plus two APs, one for each side of the house.

I got the Motorola MB8611 as advised on Xfinity’s approved devices page on their website. After activation, nothing changed. I boxed it up, switched back to Netgear and it’s the same results.

Get the MB8611 and buy your own router. A blind suggestion is the Asus RT-AX86u but need to know more about your requirements and price point. Wifi 6? 2.5Gbps or LAG? VPN?

Yes I have a MB8611 modem which has a 2.5Gbe port hooked up to a 10Gb NIC and now have speeds at 1.4Gbps download.

Do not get a combo modem/router!

For modem, just look for one that is DOCSIS 3.1 and has a 2.5 Gbps port on it, such as:

Motorola MB8611 ( I use this one)

Netgear CM2000

There are others, but I think those are the more popular ones!

Arris sb8200 or Motorola mb8611 are two good modems. Anything with docsis 3.1 will work though, don’t get 3.0 as it’s becoming out of date. Also do not get a modem/router combo

I just set up a Motorola MB8611 (2.5 Gbps) a few days ago. It stays cool and is rock solid so far.
