This is the current setup for the house: 

2 Duplex sides, each side is 2002 square feet and has 4 bedrooms. Each needs a hardline port and WiFi. 

We have one ISP, COX. We will be opting for the Gigablast plan at 940 Down and 35 Up.

8  TP-Link TL-SG108 8-PORT 10/100/1000 Gigabit Desktop Switch, one for each room.

2 ASUS RT-AX3000 Dual Band Gigabit Wireless AX Router w/AiMesh Support, using each of its four ports for each switch. One on each side of the duplex. 

1 Motorola MG8702 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem Plus AC3200 Dual Band WiFi Gigabit Router, this has four ethernet ports, I think I connect both routers to this. 

Cat 6 wiring for the entire setup. 

Is this the right way to go? Is there any glaring errors in my shopping list?

I just set up a Motorola MB8611 (2.5 Gbps) a few days ago. It stays cool and is rock solid so far.

Looking for advice to upgrade my modem for internet thru my provider. Been researching and leery after reading reviews on netgear and arris modems and faulty chips and such. Is it all hit or miss and all brands have duds that fail?  Not opposed to getting a modem /router combo. But if modem part faults i am out the router and vice versa. 

My isp only offers up to 1 gbps and i am probably only going up to 400 mbps for now. They told me it 400 mbps wont work until i got docsis3.1

Since we are upgrading our speeds constantly, these types of comms can come out from time to time. The Motorola MB8611 is definitely an advanced mode and able to handle our up to 1.2GBs download speeds.

I am rocking my isp's router (TalkTalk) and My PC doesn't get the best coverage - I am mainly concerned about lags that occur from time to time and when I am hosting games my friend complains it's laggy as well. 

Basically I have a few devices connected to the router directly (TV, xbox, smart speaker), in the future I might add another 1 or 2 more.

The next room is my daughter's PC and of course I am in the most prominent place at home - right in the corner.

Obviously we have 4 phones in use, 1 more smart speaker via WiFi and a termomix via WiFi as well. 

Can you please advise what should I do? I know ethernet cable would be the best solution but it's out of question (unless a last resort). Would I need to invest in a mesh or a better router instead?

I am in UK and look at no more than 200 to invest.

The reason why I am giving this 3 stars is because it was not an easy install for me. It took me 3 hours to mate this thing with my Apple Time Capsule router 

 I have been observing this modem for almost 2 months now since I bought it from amazon, I have constantly checked speed multiple times everyday to find its flaw but it never bogged down or dropped speeds below 300mbps, Even on weekends when internet traffic is very high, my internet speed remains stable between 300 and 360mbps. it is simply flawless and I am very happy with this modem and decided to keep it.

Nah. You're going to hit about 580Mbps max, just like I did with my C6250. Netgear says it can reach up to 680Mbps, but it really can't. You need something that can reach the 960Mbps or higher territory like the CM600/CM700 or combo units like the C7000/Orbi CBR40/CBR750 or any of the DOCSIS 3

 Called netgear, after 2 levels of support, they couldn't figure it out either. Suggested I return it which I'm doing. Still upset about all the run around. My current Modem, a 4 year old Netgear CM400 just started getting very slow and am not sure if it is Cox or the modem

 Just be careful when thinking about purchasing this modem if you need more ethernet jacks or make sure your wireless AP has them.

I recently switched over to Oceanic Time Warner Cable here in Hawaii and was given the option to purchase my own cable modem or rent it from them. I jumped at the chance to buy it myself as I think the fees were about $10 per month. After a year, this will pay for itself. The installers were able to connect right away and pull higher speeds than what I was signed up for so I can vouch that this gets over 200 Mbps

Setup instructions wrong...

 About 6 months I began to notice I wasn't getting the download speeds I was supposed too. Comcast provided a xfinity modem and I was getting consistly 170 megs download. Apearrently my network was fine. However the xfinty modem provided did not have a WAN port

 After a lot of research I found out that Comcast had changed in network configuration to use more channels to provide faster speeds going forward and this apparently debilitated other products. While I am sure this is true, it wasn't nessassary. I don't think they even offer extreme 150 in my area anymore. So if you own your own modem check your speeds from time to time you may have to upgrade your modem to get what you are paying for, you need at least 12 channels down although I think most of the newer DOCIS 3 have atleast 16 x 8

I have had to reset this modem three times in last 30 days to keep the speeds where they should be. It will drop down to 100 mbps then after calling Comcast the speeds will shoot up to 270 mbps which upgraded too
