Start with something simple and cheap like an Electro Harmonix Big Muff, and don’t get too bent out of shape on the version (Russian, op amp, etc), they all sound roughly the same overall. If you want a Hendrix like sound, look at a Dunlop fuzz face. These are probably the two easiest entry fuzzes out there, and won’t cost an arm and a leg like some of the boutique options.

I'd take a look at the Big Muff Pi. Pretty sure that would cover some Pink Floyd and Zeppelin fuzz tones.

You could also look at overdrives like a RAT (I like the Fuzzrocious Cat Tail, which is their take on the pedal).

A really popular option for that Cliff sound is a Big Muff Pi. Really cheap pedal too, especially if you get it used.

For instance if you really liked the Muse sound, you'd want a fuzz/distortion pedal and probably some kind of synth pedal. That's the sound I went with and Big Muff Pi got me more than half way there and a Digitech Bass Synth Wah got me the rest of the way.

This is the 70's in a box. It doesn't get any better than this tone-wise. There are some major downsides to it tho. As opposed to the little pi, this one is built with flimsy metal that can be dented if you stomp it too hard. It isn't compatable with any normal 9V power adaptor, just an odd one that...

Obviously thr big muffs are known for fuzz/distortion, and it does those great however the one issue is on lower tone or sustain the notes become very choppy and on the higher settings it reaches those frequencies that hurt your ears after a while, but overall would reccomemd, those issues are easil...

I've been looking for that Siamese Dream era Billy Corgan sound and this is it! Actually went in to get a different pedal, but after talking to the salesperson and trying this pedal, I am very pleased with this purchase. Update: I had to rewrite this review because the name of the pedal was flagged.
