Start with something simple and cheap like an Electro Harmonix Big Muff, and don’t get too bent out of shape on the version (Russian, op amp, etc), they all sound roughly the same overall. If you want a Hendrix like sound, look at a Dunlop fuzz face. These are probably the two easiest entry fuzzes out there, and won’t cost an arm and a leg like some of the boutique options.

 I've rolled the sustain all the way back, and we'll just use the generous amount of volume to boost the amp. And you could get a little bit more clarity out of the Big Muff by using single coils. Here's a Strat. Now let's go through the tone range with the Strat

 Even with the sustain rolled back, it still gives you a classic creamy tone with that unmistakable spongy pick attack. And let's see how clean of a sound we could get out of the Big Muff Pie.  We had to make this the fuzz a singing mid-range type of fuzz, because then we were gonna later on add bass and treble. They're active EQs, something like I saw in the Boss FA-1 or I saw in Boss Metal Zones, things like that. You see these active EQs used? You see different styles. Sometimes you see a very hi-fi one that might exist in a stereo or like the Boss, you know, FA-1

 You got to have three to get the gain up. You got to have a couple silicon transistors to give you that edge, and you have to have a germanium to give you that kind of smooth sound that everyone expects from a good fuzz. What I really liked about this was that we got to add an active EQ to it to give you exaggerated fuzz sounds, and we got to give you a bias control that allows you to shape the tone of the fuzz at any point in time. So that's what makes this fuzz bender special

 It just sounds a little softer and it doesn't break up as much. So that's why we chose to have the first stage with these, you know, very modern transistors so we get the gain up. So there's lots of, you know, velcro fuzz available and then these particular japanese ones sound really good.  So what I'm going to do is solo some of the parts from the track at the beginning of the video outside of the mix. For all the guitar parts, I was running into the clean channel on my Sur PT-15 back there. And for the bass, I was actually using an amp model from UA and running right into my UA Apollo interface. I had an SVT model dialed up and I thought the pedal sounded great in front of the Apollo and the SVT amp sim for bass guitar
