Go either with a more relaxed endurance-style road bike (example: Specialized Roubaix) or just about any hybrid bike. You want a fit that will keep your back straight and your head up, especially since you probably still have a gut to contend with. That gut can interfere with leaning far forward, and on an aggressive frame, you can end up rounding your back to compensate, and 20 miles later, here comes the back pain!.

Hello everyone, I'm here new to Cycling and I've been trying to find out some info. I live in a really small town, and while there is a bike shop, they've been really unhelpful in answers and advice (and a bit rude tbh). 

I've been trying to get healthier and have been on a weight loss journey going from 369 (nice) to 292. I plan on going lower, but I wanna start biking to build up some more endurance, and just get outside more and enjoy the world. I already walk about an hour a day every day, but I think moving towards a bike is the next good step for physical movement. I'm also lowkey terrified that I'll hop on a bike, ride it for ten minutes, and it will explode and throw me off a cliff.  


I've been trying to find info on bikes to make a decision, but I'd also love some personal recommendations based on my height, weight, and style/function. I currently weigh 292 but plan on getting down to the low 200's next year and I'm 5'11". So I'm losing pretty slowly but steady.    


I'd prefer to get a bike that flat out doesn't look like a fat guy bike, but any good recommendations would be great. I'd mostly be taking the bike on rides around town on paved roads/sidewalks up and down small paved hills as well. Maybe slightly more in the mountain bike range over a speedy bike, and I don't need anything too fancy, or too crazy. My budget is between 200-500 USD. Since some stores seem to be in a black Friday mode already, I'd love to be able to get  a good one on sale.   


I was looking at the  Schwinn Discover Hybrid Bike as an example of what I think would be a good fit, but the info is semi limited on weight limit. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you!

Fat guy's first bike in 10 years?

 It's the steerer tube. Yeah, that's the what I'm looking for that you can turn on and off with your top cap. It's got the top cap dial. Mm-hm very unique

 That price Six thousand dollars us no duress. This was all Tegra Alta Grrah and this is know this works. It's specialized and one thing that got me knowing Wireless DIY to unit they are an additional module. they're an add-on but I couldn't tell the Di2 battery on my head units something as simple as that

 It's just my preference for a road bike so that's what I had here yesterday. You've got a tube up the seat though. I had to take off the plastic cap on the top and then there's this bolt that is connected to the wages down below now. I Really? I didn't want the thing to fall down the seat you because then I wouldn't be riding bikes of the day I Don't know, he's really close to the actual seat so it's - so a multi-tool Yeah! I mean and you should definitely be using a torque wrench, but you Know even more torque wrenches they have, they may have a little larger head on it, which could interviewers that? Sorry, yeah, just just a few little nitpicky things there because it's not all happy days

I commute about 10 miles each way 4-5 times a week. I currently use a Priority 600 and some panniers, and generally like the low maintenance of the bike. It works well. But I also love road cycling (a Roubaix) and have become a bit of a data nerd -- looking at power, cadence, etc. while riding, and with the Priority having a Pinion drive most of the parts are non-standard. As a result, I can't get power from it without using power meter pedals or rebuilding a rear wheel, neither of which I really want to do (though I do have a second-hand set of Garmin Vector 2 pedals I've used, I don't love having to bring an extra pair of shoes and the time it takes to gear up etc with clipless pedals). I'm considering replacing the Priority with something a bit faster, with more standard components, but that would still be good as a daily commuter/beater. What bikes would you consider for this?  


I've been mostly considering the Specialized Diverge or Trek Checkpoint - gravel bikes that are made for a bit rougher terrain and have braze-ons for mounting racks/mud guards/etc., but can still take fast road tires and can still go pretty fast. What else should I consider?

Good commuter bike that's fast-ish

2021 Trek Domane SL5 quick review

Essentially, only higher end bikes are in stock because sucker like me spend $3200 on a bike.

Hey everyone! I am looking for some advice here. 

I went to a Trek bike shop in GA and basically every road bike in 1000-2000 usd range is sold out and the wait time is 3 -12 months (I was like,  REALLY?). 

Then I have found some suboptimal choices (colors or cost efficiency not optimal) that are in stock right now in a specific bike shop (so I assume they probably only have 1 or 2 left in the 200 miles radius around me)..... 

Basically I'd like to know if they are still resupplying their stock from time to time, or if I miss these suboptimal choices I'd never be able to get a bike this year... 

Try to decide if I should go with what they have right now, or wait until some bike shop magically gets the one that I like more all of a sudden...

Update: Thank you everyone for your advice! Gonna grab a female bike Liv Avail 3 large tomorrow (if it is still there). This is literally my only hope within the 200 mile radius!! 

I am 6&#39;1&#39;&#39;, the bike&#39;s frame size is probably equivalent to a Trek 56 or 58cm. I might be 1 inch taller than the recommended range but it won&#39;t be too bad right?

Will the bike shortage become better in the near future?

 I mean this is a 400 gram saddle as well, so with a physique antares on there you're saving another couple hundred grams. If you're a weight we need, there are things you can change, but it's it's a heavy bike because you've got disc brakes, but the advantage you've got going downhill on this thing is just immense, downhill, so much confidence. I just absolutely love this bike. So if you're thinking about buying one - and this is the video that tells you to buy it - i hope you go and buy this bike

 So all pretty much, not a lot really to moan about, because this bike itself is probably the most comfortable bike i've ever ridden. It just absorbs the road right. What do i like about this bike? Well, it is the most comfortable bike i have ever ridden by far it just dampens up the road that iso speed. Really works, you read the gump and you think: does it really work? It absolutely

 It'S all nice lines, just really clever. That is just i mean this is just beautiful um. I really like the idea of this, even though it is a little bit flimsy, the actual practicality of not having a saddlebag and how clean the bike looks, it just looks immense with nothing on it. You put what you need in your back pockets

 It says to put a pump in a tube tire levers. It is a tight squeeze, it's hard to roll up and it barely fits in there and most of the stuff that you do is in the top part of the bike. And then we've got this itself, which is uh quite flimsy.  Of course, it's gon na be a carbon fiber fork that goes onto the front, and it's actually slightly bladed, which is going to help with some of the aerodynamics of this bike. For sure. Another thing that I really like about this bike is, of course, that it's all internally cable routed and it's done really nicely. So everything comes through on the top tube of the bike right behind the stem and into the bicycle, and then you just don't have to see it again

It'S gon na make for a setup, that's resistant to weather and things like that as well, and it's also gon na help the aerodynamics on this bike for sure now, of course, because this is a disc brake version and Trek is going after making this bike

 Not only an endurance bike, but a very good do it all bike you're actually gon na have room for as wide as 38 millimeter tires, so you can get as big of a tire as you'd really need on the bike, and out of the box tires on This bike are actually going to be. The Bontrager r1 700 by 32 is the basic version of the road lineup of tires from Trek. But what's really neat about this bike? Is its tubeless capable so the wheels that come on it? The affinity TLR wheels are actually tubeless ready. So if you upgraded the tires to a tubeless setup, you could make this bike tubeless ready as well now for a drivetrain on the bike

 So a taller and a shorter rider are gon na get the same benefits of comfort, as anyone else would now up front. They'Re gon na do a similar technology, so underneath this cap, this cap actually can come off is another ISO speed. So ISO speed is on the front end and that allows the top bearing race to actually ride on the ISO speed setup and it allows the whole handlebar to flex down ever so slightly to make sure that it helps smooth out the ride and really keep you Comfortable when you're out there now cockpit on this bike is, of course, Bontrager you're gon na have a Bontrager blender stem, which I really like these, because the blender stems allow you to have different mounting points you can see on this one. It'S actually got a mount up top for a computer, though you could run all different accessories to it, and then it's got a lower amount, which is great and you'll notice that these are actually what are considered

All Around Endurance Bike - Trek Domane SL5 2020 105 Carbon Road Bike Feature Review and Weight

 I would consider the wider tires a bigger factor in a smooth ride than even the rear ISO speed. I also noticed a definite improvement in the aerodynamics. I did notice a small average speed improvement, but the bike just seems to slice through the wind.  It's also very quiet

  I've checked online for over 2 months. Overall, as an aging cyclist, I think this bike will keep me on the roads longer with less fatigue.

  The Shimano disk brakes really do provide much more modulation in braking as compared to rim brakes. The threaded thru-axle is also very helpful in the alignment of the disk brakes when removing or replacing a wheel after a bike wash.  The front ISO speed decoupler dampens road vibrations in my hands from riding.  This is a big improvement from my first Domane

 I've yet to climb any big hills, but the long cage rear derailleur and a wider cassette should help. SL5 also includes a storage box inside the frame for storing a flat kit. This is a handy feature, but I am still going to sport a saddle bag under my seat to carry my preferred my tools especially on long rides. In addition, the recommended multi-tool for the storage box is unavailable anywhere

Nice upgrade from 1st generation Domane.
