State Bicycle Co. updates the popular 4130 Fixed Gear / SS with work or play in mind
After more than a decade of manufacturing and 5+ years since major changes, State Bicycle Co. is giving the popular 4130 an overhaul. The updates seek to expand the capabilities of the reliable fixed gear and single-speed road/commuter bikes to include gravel riding or sloppy conditions.

Would a fixie be ideal for Commuting & Fitness rides?
Sooner or later you WILL zone out on a ride and try to coast and your bike will give you a rude awakening that you have to continue pedaling. But once you get used to it that perpetual motion will help drive you forward and up hills. For the money I’d suggest a Mercier Kilo TT/WT or a State 4130 over those two. Please wear a helmet, buy foot retention and run a front brake.

**State 4130 vs REI Co-Op Adv 2.1 vs Poseidon Dropbar X**. **My Background**: I used to have a basic hybrid that I only used on paved rail trails but haven't done outdoor cycling in a few years. I have a gut at the moment so I dont want to be in too much of an aggressive position but dont need to be fully upright like a hybrid fitness bike.
I’m a Gravel Riding Beginner and Need Help Getting Started
state 4130 all road at $900, excellent all-around bike especially if you’re looking for steel, with fenders and racks it makes an excellent commuter bike, can clear a 27.5 x 2.2 mountain bike tire for excellent capability off-road, most relaxed and upright riding position. Poseidon redwood at $950, least good on pavement but most capable off-road with the ability to clear a 27.5 x 2.8 mountain bike tire!.

Input on State Bicycle Company bikes
Given that steel can be a heavy choice, State does a good job keeping it in check. 22lbs 10oz for a size 55 is reasonable given the price point and build. The frame is built of double butted 4130 steel with lots of gorgeous details.Aug 21, 2020.
Poseidon X or STATE 4130? HELP!
Always great to see my comments linked :D. I’d say state 4130 is the better value. Poseidon X if having a “cool looking” frame is important to you.

Moving to the city. Any good urban commuter bikes I could buy or build for ~$1000?
State bicycles 4130 All Road or Poseidon X / Redwood. Absolute best bang for the buck. Poseidon X has a flat bar version as well. These are gravel bikes - Id say the perfect bike for commuting.

Bike Suggestions for a Fat Bastard
I have three of them and the one I recommend the most is State Bicycle All-Road 4130 in a size Large. It’s one of the most affordable gravel bikes on the market and has a lot of higher features on a small budget. Big guys like us need to get some weight off our bums and also need a lot of hand positions. Wide, tubeless slick tires are the way to go for roads.

I'm new to gravel riding. I currently ride a Nukeproof Scout 275 MTB that is a slog to ride on flat and hills for mile after mile so I'm looking into an entry level gravel bike. So far the State 4130 and Poseidon Dropbar X seem like good entries that offer the ability to upgrade in the future if I stick with it.
This Affordable Bike Turned Me Into an Avid Cyclist
As it turned out, State’s versatile, single-speed steel gravel bike, the 4130 in matte olive, fit the bill.
