 It'S clearly um something top of the list of priorities for an adventure bike, but we'll get into performance in the little moment. But let's flip the bike around and show you some other cool details on this bike. Turning the bike around, we can see some really well thought out. Features that show specialized have done their homework

 So you effectively have a longer bike, but with a short stem, giving you nice handling. So when you're riding very steep terrain, you have more weight behind the front wheel, so you're not as pitched over the front wheel as you are on a more road-based geometry and just give you a much calmer, much more stable, feel in those rowdy rough corners. When a normal bike might be bucked off the saddle, this bike lets you carry more speed and carry more confidence into those sections where you can be challenged to get the bike down cleanly. So the geometry is a real asset, nice and calm at high speed, nice and stable

 The right clothing is really important at the time of year. To keep you warm and dry on a bike and that's a neat segue to the sponsor of today's video giro. Now jiro have been making helmets since 1985, but more recently, branched out in the footwear and cycled clothing and today, i'm wearing the latest autumn winter clothing. Starting at the top with a syntax, mips, helmet, it's lightweight and well ventilated and the rock lock 5 retention system is really easy to adjust

 But for now this is one of the best groups that you can get if you can afford it and then moving on to the wheels we've got the robo terra clx carbon fiber wheels nice shallow profile, wide internal width, a good platform for these pathfinder pro tyres.  So a lot of my trails are sort of flowing they're they're, not particularly technical. There are some drops, there's some rooty ones, but most of them are sort of wide open, fast trails that you just kind of hold on, and you can let a rip, and you can especially do that with this bike and again, that's because it feels really really In control - and i think that's a really important aspect of this - that when you're riding those trails you can just get in the drop, so you can hold on to the huds and you don't need to be on the brakes, because the bike gives you the confidence That it will smash along really well in a straight line and that's exactly what it does. So. Stability is both great at high speed, but i have also noticed that sometimes the diverge can be a bit laborious when you're trying to make a tight turn or get up and over some, particularly like twisty and tighty root, sections or you're, going when you're going slow And you've got to sort of inch your way around a technical section

 That extra length in the wheelbase was great when the bike was really heavy and gaining velocity when descending down big hills laid them with bags and likewise that slightly slower, more confident steering just lets. You lean it into a corner with confidence. You know that it's not going to like dip or twitch when it gains speed. You just know that this bike is just going to plug on on the line that you put it on

[ Applause ]: this is the specialized diverge comp carbon, it costs 3 600 pounds, and for that money you get a fact: 9r carbon frame, a future shock 2.0 model and a swap box in the down tube. So i've been riding this for the last few months. They launched this bike in may, and i've been putting the miles on it, both on-road and off-road, and these are my thoughts, [ Music ]

 So.  When i humble brag warning did a really cool 280 kilometer coast coast ride with my former colleague joe, that was on that bike and at the end of that enormous day, i was very impressed by how fresh i felt even over the course of a three or Four hour ride be on road or gravel with the new bike, you really do feel a difference, and that is for me where the system shines. Now, as i mentioned, the new future shock is adjustable to adjust it essentially, where your top cat would normally sit on your stem. You have a small index dial and from turning that through 90 degrees, you can go from fully open all the way to fully closed. The system is active enough without being too boggy and squishy fully open to make a difference to make it more comfortable without wallowing through its travel

 Now i haven't set this bike up as tubeless is a review bike and it's going back to specialized imminently, so i've had to set it up with tubes as standard now. This means i've had to run ever so slightly higher pressures than i would with a tubular sap to avoid pinch flats, as you lean over in you know, kind of tighter corners. You get this quite unnerving transition between the smooth section and the tread on the outside. Likewise, the tread is also pretty much useless in the wet trails we typically find here in the uk

 It was first seen on what is now the previous generation stump jumper. This essentially makes use of the fact that down tubes, quite big these days and beneath the down tube bottle cage, you've got kind of like a plastic port with a really sturdy hinge which allows you to stuff multi-tools burritos jackets trail finds. What have you? My one? Criticism is leveled at the actual plate which forms the door to the swap box. This is a really small thing, but it did kind of annoy me these small nuts, which sit on the base of the door to the swap box

 The whole system runs on a set of roller bearings and there's next to no stiction at all. In the system, even when you're riding over relatively smooth gravel, it is very active and you can look down and see the little rubber boot satisfyingly squishing away as you go over small terrain. But for me where the bike really shines is on longer rides the difference. It makes in terms of upper body fatigue, is really noticeable even on the previous generation bike

 Well, that was just the start. I then trained, rode, worked out, and did a 75-mile charity ride/race. 

I do not recommend you looking for a new bike within that budget. Bikes depreciate rapidly, and you should take advantage of that. Bicycle Blue Book is not a great website from a seller's perspective on bike pricing since it gives very low ball figures, but from a buyer's perspective the pricing of the bikes are numbers you want to hit. I recommend you start with endurance geometry bikes like the Giant Defy, Specialized Roubaix, Trek Domane, Cannondale Synapse, and Fuji Sportif

 Easily 2016+ but it may be completely unnecessary depending on your needs and desires. If I were you, I would stick to sub $500 and ride the heck out of the bike. If you can prove to yourself that you are riding frequently and competing, then looking at higher budgets might make sense for some carbon wheels or another bike.

Look into a 54 cm frame specifically for your height. For $300-$500, ideally look into aluminum road bikes with carbon forks, shimano 105 and ultegra drivetrains, rim brakes, included clipless pedals/lights/bottle cages are a plus. Just be aware that at your budget, disc brake bikes will be have elephant weights over 22 lb and most certainly cable-actuated anyway.  You are most likely looking at 2015 and older bikes, but these road bikes can be just as fast and fun

i previously had a 50cm TRACK FIXED GEAR BIKE FIXIE SINGLE SPEED ROAD BIKE (Black, 50 cm), which was a budget vilano bike from amazon. it was fine - although slightly tall for me

i would prefer less than $300, but am willing to go up to $500 if it makes a big difference

i do not need lock-in pedals

cheap / budget road bike for commute (10 miles, max)

 Some of the highlights. We have a full 105 build here. Uh, you know, shimano 105 has been a workhorse tried improved throughout the years for shimano. So a lot of times the baseline is where it starts at 105, even though with trickle-down technology there's, some some lower group sets that really do a good job

 We don't get too many cobblestones, but it is designed for the cobbles of the roubaix. So if you need to go down a sidewalk to get to your favorite road to ride at the rims can handle it, the frame can handle it. The bike is definitely engineered. Very robust, but what i really want to convey to people is

 So not a lot of us are, you know, able to do group rides or riding the road straight from our house, and if you want to do that really fast and really efficient, the roubaix is tough enough light enough and fast enough to do it very effectively. Um, like i said this is a ruby sport, so real quick, just kind of going through some of the specs. Some of the highlights. We have a full 105 build here

 But if you want something super solid that has stood the test of time, 105 has been engineered to do that. We got 10 speeds on the back. This rear derailleur hits gears very good. You don't really miss many gears or any gears at all when it comes to 105

2021 Specialized Roubaix Sport - $2900

9 kilos. I'Ve chopped and changed loads of components. When i first weighed it with heavier tyres, different saddle, it was at 8.6 kilos, including pedals and cages

 The ruby expert gets specialized second-tier frame set the very top spec, as with all specialized bikes, is the s-works which is made from what they call fact. 11R carbon. This model is fact 10r specializes a little bit vague about the differences there. Supposedly, it might be around 50 grams heavier making for a frame weight of something in the region of 950 grams, but that's not gospel, don't take it as being absolute fact

 Take it from me [ Music ], my first proper experience with the ruby was driving to italy and riding it in tuscany, on the famous strada bianchi roads around the route of the heroica vintage race. For this trip i fitted 32 millimeter continental gp 5000 tubeless tyres, which remain my favorite all-round choice for this bike, because they're big squishy comfortable, but on tarmac they feel as fast as any other road tyre. I was able to run those down at about 45 50-ish psi and on the relatively smooth but varying gravel of tuscany. They were an absolute light just so so good

 I'M going to tell you why. At the end of the day, get the bike that will motivate you to ride the most. For me it was a road bike. I was scared to even test it and was very apprehensive about having drop bars. Something that’s endurance like a Specialized Roubaix or Cannondale Synapse would be good compromise for a more relaxed posture but still a road bike with drop bars and racing groupsets that shift precisely. 

Last thing I’ll say, as others have said already, is that diet is 95% of weight loss. I have other posts I can link about what I ate and how to cook stuff that is healthy, tasty, fast, and cheap if you want but definitely be prepared to get into a routine of exercise and some degree of cooking.

I come to you today seeking your collective advice. This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons.

I’m a 34 year old male, a former smoker for 20 years (*I quit two months ago!*),  and am overweight. I’m 6’ and roughly 240lbs. I’m strongly considering  getting into cycling to lose this weight. For reference I’ve been  overweight since I was 16.

I live  in Colorado. Most of my biking will be on cement, asphalt, and some dirt  roads. I don’t intend to try anything “mountainous” for the time being –  but would like to be able to tackle some beginner trails eventually. I  also intend to use it to commute to work (about ½ mile each way). I plan  on getting a trunk mounted bike carrier for my car so I can go places.

I’m  trying to find a bike and from what I’ve read I’m either looking at a  “Hybrid” or a “Gravel” bike. The two that have caught my eye, if I’m on  the right track here, are the Checkpoint ALR 4 and the FX Sport Carbon  4. Both of these bikes are made by TREK.

What  do you all recommend? Or am I too big for these bikes? Should I be  looking for a different kind of bike? I have not climbed on a bike for,  like, 18+ years.
