Worth the move to a road bike?

 Sora is perfectly utilitarian if your price point is firm and you know you need discs.

First a little bit of background - I am a heavy guy (\~210 lbs), who has been doing easy cycling for the past 4 years (50-100 miles a year, during summers) on the [Fuji sportif 1.5D](https://archive.fujibikes.com/2015/Fuji/sportif-15-disc) that I bought in 2016. This year, I am planning to crank it up and in need of a new bike. I really liked the Fuji I had, but there are certain things that I am looking for in the new bike:

* Looking for Shimano 105 groupset. Fuji had an interesting mix of sora shifters and front derailleur with Tiagra rear derailleur. I live in the greater Seattle area and there are a lot of hills here. While Sportif was okay - I want to go a little higher on the gearset and want a 105, although if I can't get that, will probably settle on Tiagra.
* Sportif had vittoria zaffiro 700 x 28c. 28 just isn't cutting it for me. I am a heavy guy and the ride is pretty stiff. Hitting pavements is a nightmare. What would be the ideal width here? 32? I don't do gravel at all - so it's pavements mixed with roads.
* I want an endurance frame that is easier to ride for hours. Planning to crank up to 50-mile rides.
* Disk brakes are important for me. It's pacific northwest and it rains a fair bit here. Wet + hills without disc brakes with a heavy body is something I am not willing to risk on.
* I am constrained on budget and don't wanna go above $1500. 

All the research that I have done until now - can't seem to find anything that matches all criteria. The closest I have found:

* [Masi Vincera Tiagra](https://www.sunandski.com/p/77210056650002110/masi-men-s-vincere-tiagra-road-bike-21). The 105 gearset on this is a whopping $500 more. Looks like a decent build, although with a 105 gearset - on expensive side. The tires are 700 \* 30c. I would have ideally liked a 32.

I have never used one and don't know what to compare this gearset to, and the bike seems to be heavily gravel-oriented rather than road-oriented.
* [Ribble CGR AL](https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-cgr-al-orange-shimano-105/build/#Bike) \- Gravel-oriented bike but I can customize and choose a 700 x 35c tire. Its slightly wider, but I think it works? Also, this is on the expensive side and the website doesn't describe how much the import duty is going to come to.
* Found this on [bikesdirect](http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/disc-brake-roadbikes/lechampioncf-disc-comp-discbrake-road-bikes.htm). It has 28 width tires, and from what I am a little iffy on bikesdirect.

Need Advice - Road bike under $1500

-and if I am able a 15 mile zone 2 the morning of the day before my weekend ride (16mph avg, mid 80s cadence)

I am pretty sure my issue is that I'm am muscling through that first 35, and have nothing left once the muscles are done. I usually finish with a 60 something cadence, so I know I'm just grinding to hold 22+ speed, when I try to spin I just start gapping and my heart rate goes through the roof.

 I rode around the block and it was mesmerizing. Night and day different between this one and the other bike. Felt amazing. 

For 4 years I had a Scott bike I bought here in my local store, for about $400-500. Live in south Texas. Rode everyday for a year or so, lost lots of weight. Eventually I did get bored with it, rode less and less consistently

The decision I went for my second bike.

Look for Shimano groupset (basically all of the gears, shifting, and mechanical parts put together) and below I will list their groupsets from Shimano from "worst" (the "worst" is still great and will serve you very well) to best.

 It is one thing that's a easy upgrade, but that's pretty common with entry-level bikes. Usually They're built for robustness and not speed. Here's a close-up of the crank, this is a non-series Shimano crank. It looks very similar to 105 though, so it really fits the bill pretty well

 Here's the front caliper again, same issue you have post mounted TRP HY/RD A little bit bulkier. With more expensive bikes. They will be flat mounted which gives it a much sleeker appearance. Also The cable routes here is a little odd, and it does have to come all the way around instead of going through the fork

 Now Let's talk about the drivetrain,. I Really like the Shimano 105 drivetrain on this bike. Unlike A lot of entry-level bikes which have eight or nine speed clunky drivetrains, this generation of 105 is really crisp and clean.

. As A result: you have this endurance geometry, you'll note it has a tall head tube here. That brings the front of the bike higher up and it gives you a more natural riding/\s/position and more neutral handling. Also Note that they've included a dropped seat stay design as you can see here

The best bike under $1k? Decathlon Triban 105 RC 520 Review - feat. Shimano 105 + TRP HY/RD

 Its a bit heavy with around 10.4kg on the M size no pedals but I think its decent for a entry level road bike.

Title is kind of self explanatory, but I'm looking for a solid bike for around $600. I know some bikes at this price range aren't really worth it, but I really don't want to drop a grand on a bike. I'm looking to go on decently long rides, so an endurance bike would be preferable. I have a background in mountain biking, but I don't want to have to drive up to the mountain to be on 2 wheels.

Looking for a good entry level road bike

 I purchased the medium frame and I am 5'9, so bang in on the size for me, I would say anyone at this height who wants more comfortable geometry should go up a frame as my seat is now a good few inches over the top of my handle bars. All in all the bike is solid, flys around with no issues and nobody moaned with the free try outs at my bike club. What went down very well there was the paintjob and the fact it looks different in light and darker conditions. The only niggle is the positioning of the rear gear cable, it seems to pop up from under the frame a bit early and if my right foot is out of position my heel can catch, this is not a problem when I have my cleats (Shimano A530s) on but is a problem for stop and start riding

800kms report - Just over 2 months

Size wise, it's slightly bigger if you comparing size S for both Triban 520 and Giant TCR, though by not much more.  I had to swap the stem to 60mm to keep within my comfort reach. 

This is an endurance geometry - it will ride slightly higher and less aggressive riding position than Giant TCR.  

 Tri-bands or or Decathlon's own Ergo fit. Saddle is absolutely fine and I found it pretty comfortable once I got used to it. And then in terms of the front end or the cockpit again, it's the in-house handlebars. Road bike handlebars from Tri-band I ride a medium frame and the bars come with a 100 mil stem at the front, which to be honest for me was quite a reach and I think a lot of new cyclists or cyclists not that used to road bikes will have a similar experience

 Um, with this bike, and for the money. um, it's what mid-november 2021 here in the Uk? Uh, I think the bike sells at 850 quid at the moment. which is, I think just under a thousand euros, just under 1200. I think for the money you're spending, you're getting a lot of bike and you're getting something that's pretty bomb proof
