 I sized it and it has perfectly balanced weight in conjunction with the watch, it feels solid though not entirely (who cares), and the clasp closes with an excellent click with nothing appearing loose nor giving the impression that it will snag onto anything or slowly open. The lume, as expected, is beautiful and is even in brightness all around the face. On the wrist the watch, again, has wonderful balance around the whole circumference of the wrist. The weight of the watch does not feel as if to swing in favor of any side of the wrist

 Just hoping it proves to be reliable and reasonably accurate when worn in a variety of situations.  If you're new to Seiko, this is a great place to start, and even if you're a well-experienced Seiko owner, I'd say pick your favorite color/style have fun with the 5KX.

(That's how you know you got a genuine one, LOL!) I'm willing to put up with it since the lume is applied so evenly on this example. Anyway, ever see some top tier luxury pieces in macro? Even Jaeger-LeCoultre's printing on their limited edition reverso dials is kinda grainy/blobby in places

Surprised by the 5KX : Seems Seiko has upped its game (this from a former SKX009 owner)

I purchased this with the idea of making it look like my dream watch. A grand seiko spring drive watch. And I've succeeded. This came originally with a blue diver bezel but removed for a lucius Atelier polished pilot bezel

I mean, if you can't tell already, so yeah, I mean let me know what you think you know I should do. or maybe what you would do if you were in my position or if you are already in my position what you think you're gonna do

 You know, anytime I just go outside into the sun, it's awesome. And as for the actual dial, I love it just because of the sunburst finish that I just mentioned. It's really well done, the grain is really nice and I actually happen to love this shade and tone of gray just because it's dark enough so as to you know not be too contrasty and not just be you know a light black but also at the same time it is just fully graying and yet onwards from over there. I mean the indices are super clean, I love the shape of it and it gives me that full-on seiko vibe which is what I would want from a watch like this

 So what I did is I went back to some of the reviews and you know Lo and behold, there it was in James Stacy's uh review photos. you can see the gap. same thing with the watch, Geckos photos, Warren Wowlin's photos, and actually and actually the I found myself on the Seiko website and I was looking over there at the Sbb 143 and I noticed that their main photo over there actually shows the gap perfectly. I mean more than the photos, which is I guess very refreshing honesty

I keep my ear close to the ground on all things watches and especially Seiko, but even I’ve lost count of what watch is what in the last few years. There seems to be so many variants at different price ranges with similar vintage designs. That being said, this SPB143/SBDC101  is the perfect mix of looks, value, and design.

 This watch is a true strap monster. Seiko, if you keep churning out watches like this, you will win back many, if not most, of those fans you drove away.

I’m glad Seiko is finally properly valuing their watches. I’ll be happy that I got some great deals that include two samurais for about $300 each and an essentials that has Presage undertones for an eye-popping $150. But now I’ll happily pay what I think is fair market price for their watches. I recently picked up a SPB143 and it’s by far my favorite watch in the collection

Unpopular opinion I know but I’ll probably never own a Seiko and here is why. 

There was a time where Seiko was the go to brand for value and entry to mid level goodness in the likes of the SKX and SNK. 
Value that was stable and came with good reputation to help newcomers and remain in old enthusiasts collection. 

Then Seiko decided to discontinue the SKX and the prices began to surge which of course would make sense since the watch was hard to get. 
Suddenly the SKX isn’t worth it anymore.. 

Seiko began to change the strategy creating more cool watches and designs but with a lack of care. 

We had to accept a rise in prices without any regards to misaligned bezels, hardlex and shabby bracelets. Fine we still love Seiko right ? 

Then they started sending out limited editions and improving slightly on current models - like the seiko king samurai and with it upping the price. 
Here comes the problem and my biggest WHY. The prices you see now on these limited and updated versions are not worth it. Sure for a Seiko lover there is some argument to be had. 
But in reality you often look at misaligned bezels, old movements and subpar bracelets and you still smile and wave? 

Recently they made a new Seiko Monster that comes in a new color. It’s limited of course. A watch that isn’t worth more than 400 dollars has gone up to 1000 dollars. That’s right. Same goes for the limited Alpinist. 

They make it too obvious that they’re focusing on the cash and not the love. They take short cuts, skip quality check and demand higher prices for what you actually get? And the consumer has been affected by this and when they sell a seiko they up the price. So the Seiko market has gone passed value for money into a grey area where the flippers and seiko lovers live. 

Most of you will probably disagree but that’s fine. It’s just an opinion and for me it’s enough to push me away for Seiko.
