New Kit Day! Gretsch Catalina Club. What heads have CC owners enjoyed using?

Each tom has a Remo coated ambassador batter head, and most have the Remo ambassador clear skins as resonant heads.When tuning I notice a lot of the lugs tend to not hold their tightness very well, as when tightening one lug is loosens the one I just tightened by a bit. This is making it very difficult to get a consistent tune. On top of this the skins look to be fairly well used and aged (not terrible though at all)

You can choose heads based on the sound you like, if it were me I'd probably put Remo Ambassador clears on the bottom and coated on the top, but if you like a crisper low-overtone sounds go with a two-ply head on top, and if you like a louder sound with overtones, go clear top and bottom. For the snare, I love my Evans genera dry with the vent holes,  thin and clear for the bottom.

My drums were handed down to me by my father in 2009 (deceased) when I was 13 years old. A lot of my experience with these drums have been trying to understand my father‘s decision making. Could someone tell me why the hell he would he put clear Ebony Remo better heads on the bottom and put fiber skyn 3’s on the top? We’re talking main 5 piece kit. The other 4 have the demo’s with the pin stripe without backs.

 And change the bass drum head to an Emad clear level 360 or a Remo powerstroke 3 clear. Then it sounds really good.

That kit is a lovely kit but to make it sound even better you better change those heads. Get something like Evans genera G1 or remo coated ambassador on toms and snare batter side and clear remo ambassadors on the reso side. Four piece kits are fun too

By far my favorite head for a snare drum. This bad boy tunes easily and sounds crisp.  I even went as far as adding one to my awful, no name brand, back up snare and was shocked at how much better in sounded just by changing to this head.  Another big plus is how sturdy this head is

 I'm a little OCD about some things and I hate having any head that peels and flakes after usage, even some of the "best" and "highest" and "most expensive" coated heads do this. I just feel it makes the head ugly as well as makes it weaker. My point here is that this head does not do this. I have been using this for a long time and not one small flake has come off

Remo Ambassadors are the best heads. They tune up easy and hold their tune. I really like the old school Remo Weather King logos too!

It is the perfect drumhead for a drummer who wants to get a great tone out of their toms (bass too) without the extended ring you get from most other drumheads.
