Polk Audio – Learn More About HTS Subwoofers

 Upon reassembling the unit of course I discovered that a couple of screws were stripped - wonderful. Anyway the stripped screws were on opposite sides so not worth my time to try to get a resolution from Polk. The unit sounds very good and is a good value, but given the poor customer service and product reliability I can't recommend it.

But if it's you know north of 140, 150 there's better subs out there in the just under 200 range, the hts 10. If you can pick them up for 315, like i did you're going to be extremely happy with it now i've seen these at 3

. so think about that before you buy. Probably the biggest reason I opted for this model sub was to match it to the rest of my Polk Signature speakers that are set up in my family room. First of all, the HTS-12 is pretty big (like almost end table big) so make sure that you have the room space to fit it in

 For the money, I think it delivers impressive, smooth, and effortless bass without becoming either muddy, boomy, or distorted - when properly set up. Acoustically, I do think that this sub favors home theater setup versus pure HiFi Stereo music which is probably true of all ported subs versus sealed subs. Nevertheless, the response is tight, accurate, and clear enough for me to easily recommend purchasing this sub. However, I do not think that I would have paid the MSRP price of $500 for the HTS-12

 Nevertheless, the response is tight, accurate, and clear enough for me to easily recommend purchasing this sub. However, I do not think that I would have paid the MSRP price of $500 for the HTS-12. All things audio have a rapid and then flat curve of diminishing returns, meaning that once you break out of the low-end price range, every additional dollar spent won't get you the same level of bang for your buck. One of the reasons I purchased this exact sub was to match my other Polk Signature Series speakers in both appearance and sound

For $350 it is a steal. For $500 you can do better

 So, I would have to wait two weeks for the replacement. Can you at least priority mail it once it's ready, I asked? No, they said.  So here I am waiting two weeks - all during the holidays mind you, when I'd love to be watching movies and listening to music and in general enjoying this expensive subwoofer. But does the part come? Nope

 And it's definitely making me rethink Polk audio in general, even after all these years.

 But after 10 minutes of holding, she tells me she can't get her supervisor and will have to call me back. But do I get a call back. Nope.  It's really crazy

 I'm about to call Amazon and ask for a refund. This is ridiculous. And it's definitely making me rethink Polk audio in general, even after all these years.

Think twice! Subwoofer broke down after 3 months

 The HTS 10 inch subwoofer was enormous. This subwoofer was about the same size as my old subwoofer. This clearly doesn't have the same power as the HTS 10 but has an "on" feature and also the "auto on" feature on this subwoofer works with my receiver. The 440 sounds good but isn't nearly as powerful as the HTS 10 (cannot expect it to be as powerful, just pointing it out)

 I am happy with the 440 but I did have to turn up the subwoorer volume to 30 (out of 40) and it still shakes my theatre room but not the entire house :)

 Once on the subwoofer sounds ok (not nearly as good as I had hoped though). If I leave the switch to off I never get any sound to come out of the subwoofer so that switch is just a power off switch and not disabling auto on like my previous sony subwoofer. I spent hours last night playing with settings on my receiver to see if I could get this to work correctly yet no matter what I have done is if the subwoofer goes into hybernation (LED on back goes red) then the only way it will recognize the receiver is on is if I toggle the switch on the back. I have made sure all of my speakers are setup as small on my receiver, set the fronts and center to a crossover of 80 and my surrounds at 110, connected via LFE and still the same thing

I was thinking to buy a new subwoofer for my home theater and after a research selecting new Polk HTS lineup, have to choose between 10" or 12". I don't want to be disappointed because this purchase has to be long term. I have a 4x7 meters room. I decided by the 10" version, and I am very happy with my decision, is 100 bucks cheaper and smaller foot print

At the beginning it only works when I watch movies with LFE content, by after some research I realize that you should setup Small Speakers in your receiver for the front speakers and 80Hz crossover point. If I choose lower than 80Hz for the front speakers it doesn't send bass content to the subwoofer in music or cable Tv, only movies with Dolby Digital LFE content
