I will probably not use this with expensive colored pencils as the sharpener chews quite a bit of core off when sharpening and this could lead to breakage; however I have good technique sharpening manually with a Prismacolor sharpener that gives me two very different lengths so I will continue to use and recommend that for colored pencils. The blunt on the Prismacolor manual sharpener was what I was hoping to find but the electric/battery blunt setting is closer to the Prismacolor's sharp point with more core shaved off. Of note is that the 4 AA batteries are not provided and the USB/ electric cable is short. The USB cable cannot be used with a laptop

The cap will last a long time if you don't pull or twist it.
