Regarding the X-Acto Ranger KS 1031 pencil sharpener, my older pencil sharpener has much, much thicker & stronger steel. This junk bucket is so thin that I've already dented it by simply grasping to remove the shavings. Even the little foldy-over tabs holding the ends on came open. Oy! What A Mess! The base seems sturdy enough however

Comes with three screws that are of cheap quality. I recommend using something different tan what is provided. The sharpener works but it is definitely not the easiest to use. I remember the smooth rolling quality of a school style sharpener

Very sturdy build and for us Baby Boomers, would remind one of the crank-handled pencil sharpeners we used in grammar school. Bonus- two rotary sharpening blades for accurate pencil points. XACTO RANGER 1031 PENCIL SHARPENER

I bought this pencil sharpener for my classroom because the mechanical ones were giving too much trouble. This definitely needs to be mounted otherwise it’s a struggle to sharpen anything.  However, drilling this was a total headache because the body gets in the way. I took it apart too (the handle, pencil shaving holder, blades) and it still was such a pain to drill

Call me old fashioned, but I'll take this style of sharpener over all others! As long as they stay low cost and high quality.. My only complaint is two, the shavings basket has a rather loose feel to it when fitting back on. Not as firm as the old ones

This sharpener works well. It doesn't seem quite as sturdy as the ones I remember from grade school but so far it is just fine for home use. Just a small thing but it doesn't stop feeding into the cutter once its sharp. It will continue to grind as long as you're turning it so you have to check it or you'll lose more of the pencil than necessary

 The big thing about a screwed down sharpener is that you can find it when you need it!  The thing also has psychological benefits. At least, I got a good laugh when I saw the screws that came with it. I do not remember ever seeing screws that small, except for things like watches, eye glasses, and such. I showed them to my handyman without comment, and he had a good laugh too

  Thanks to the various reviews here that explained that you should not hold the pencil too tight initially when sharpening. I did not know that before and it does help get the point more centered.

 Recall that the #6 screws barely fit in the holes, so you do not want the hole location to drift. The whole thing took about 15 minutes with zero problems. Easy to install

I got this to replace my now-defunct battery-run sharpener, since I really like my old (very old) study metal one, and having used X-acto knives in the past figured this one should sharpen well.  It sharpens REALLY well--a longer thinner pointier pencil point on my number 1 pencils, and cranking it is not problem. Also, I love having the dial-able gizmo/attachment that lets up set it for the exact pencil size. I HAD thought the box didn't contain the screws it said it did, but later this evening I found a tiny package whose plastic envelope glinted in the evening light--the missing screws package had slipped out of the box while I was opening it and fallen to the floor

  Use care opening the box to avoid carelessly like me losing the screws--maybe open the box over a table rather than standing in the middle of a room !  Still LOVE this sharpener!  The only flow in my experience is that while the box says "Mounts easily...(screws included)
