A couple of years ago I bought an MSR Hubba. The fly has points for attaching pullouts, which clearly are necessary to get the fly away from the body for raindrip and ventilation, as well as making a nice taut pitch.

Seriously, even here I see people carelessly set up tents in horrible locations with saggy rain flys, no tension between the corner points, stakes angled incorrectly, and never a guyline to be seen. What's up with y'all? Does everyone like loosey goosey tents that will leak and tear as soon as the wind bumps up past 15 mph?


If you're gonna put your tent up, keep it tight. 

If you're gonna put your fly on, stake it out. 

If there's even a chance that it will storm, guy it out.

I'm convinced that almost all negative tent reviews are due to people not knowing how to set up a tent.

I'm looking for a new tent my old Eureka Wabakami 2 is just too heavy and uses way too much space in my pack. We're based in Germany but we basically hike all over Europe we've been to Norway, Wales, Portugal, the Alps..

I'm really hoping you guys can help me decide on a tent or give me some suggestions. Cheers.

I thought I’d share this because I didn’t know you could replace the shock cord yourself until recently, wish I had done it last year!

Replaced the shock cord on my tent and now the poles feel good as new. Cheap, easy to do, wish I had thought of it earlier.

 Note: I actually came up about 2' short (umm... it happens ; ) )  See you on the trails!

 Mostly fair weather, but I did have a couple rain events. They are easy to set up (even the deer in the pic shown can do it!), and with some added thought (beyond a deer's skill level), they can be set up in rain to minimize inside wetness. They aren't the lightest option, but I think they offer a good balance of weight/durability/price (I initially had a little sticker shock, but after 30 uses with no issue, the shock goes away :) ). I highly recommend! Note: The deer in the pic was seeking trekking poles, and soon after pic was taken, scored one from a backpacking neighbor

Good all around 2-person backpacking tent!

MSR Hubba Hubba NX - On sale at REI, didn't plan on spending the money and was browsing tents while I was picking up the Tensor and got into a chat with an employee about the MSR vs Copper Spur UL 2 being out of stock everywhere, they sold me on the discounted MSR being a good choice.   

ArmyTek Wizard Nichia - Someone here shared a link to /r/ultralight, who shared a link to /r/flashlights and after doing some reading, it seemed like a great replacement for my 7 year old black diamond.   

What did ya'll spend your hard earned money on this Holiday weekend? What was your best deal? 

I gave it 4 stars for lightweight because there is some out there lighter but with footprint this one weighs in at 4.1 pounds and I can deal with that. I have used it on two outings and it is very easy to set up. It is very roomy for one

If you're in warmer climate I would check out the Msr tents and their duplicates, I was thinking hard on buying their Hubba Hubba but decided it wouldn't fit me for our Scandinavian mountains.

I don't agree with the +1 rule if your going on a hike, as weight is way more important than the small gain in comfort.

You two will walk, eat, wash yourself, change and poop close to each other anyway so sleeping contained in a sleeping bag next to each other won't feel weird either :)

Take a look at my tent the Nordic Oppland for example, you will have to carry 250g (0.55 pounds) more if you shoose a 3ppl tent over a 2 ppl tent. That maybe doesn't sound like much but if you thinking lightweight with the big 3 for 3kg (tent, sleeping system and kitchen) then that's 12.5% of your tents goal weight /person for only 22

My first question is, how spacious is a 2 person tent typically? I’m going on a camping trip with my friend but we are not “intimate friends” lol. Would we be on top of each other and should I buy a 3 person tent?

Love this tent!

We have used this tent several times this summer and it is still going strong! Very easy to put up and durable. The full mesh top is great for stargazing when the rain fly is not attached. Easily fits 2 plus our 40lb pup.

Durable tent!

 The inside of the tent is very spacious due to the steep wall angle around the tent. I had no problem assembling and fitting a backpacking cot inside and had plenty of room for a full pack, daybag and probably another cot if necessary. Breakdown was easy, and the storage bag for everything is oversized so you can be a little lazy on repack. Would recommend this tent to anyone! Will send pictures after next outing in couple weeks

Great tent, fairly easy setup

 The reflective material Nemo uses makes it super easy to see where to step at night. I haven’t seen another tent with that level of reflection, plus it looks so good.

 

I'm looking for a new tent my old Eureka Wabakami 2 is just too heavy and uses way too much space in my pack. We're based in Germany but we basically hike all over Europe we've been to Norway, Wales, Portugal, the Alps... We also have an upcoming trip to Bolivia I'd like to use the tent on.  
We're both on the small side I'm 176 (5'9) and my gf is 164(5'4). We are also planning on having a baby next year, so space is quite important to us as I don't want to buy a tent just to never use it after the little human is with us.

Qualities we are looking for:

1. spacious/livability
2. weather resistance and bug proof
3. Freestanding: I don't have an experience with non freestanding tents and I'm unsure/openish if I want to give them a go.
4. Durable
5. Budget is around 400€ with a little leeway if necessary
6. weight - hiking with a baby is not really UL I know but since we're probably carrying around loads of baby things anyways we want to save weight on the tent at least

I've looked at:

* Nemo Dagger 2p: I really like the tent and I feel like it would be a good compromise but maybe there is something better out there.
* MSR Hubba Hubba: Seems like a solid tent but I'm not sure if it's big enough to fit 2 people plus eventually a baby
* Big Agnes Copper Spur 3: The only thing that's keeping me from getting it is basically the price and some durability concerns. Also it seems to not be available anywhere at the moment.
* Big Agnes Tiger Wall 3: I'm a little on the fence about it not being a freestanding tent and the durability. Also it's very expensive.

I'm really hoping you guys can help me decide on a tent or give me some suggestions. Cheers.

lightweight tent for 2p + Baby

If you like this size, you will like the Nemo Dagger 2p better. It's about half the weight of the aurora, but it costs more. I will say, weight matters a lot.
