 Now then, moving over 32 is one of those things that got everybody super excited when it was first announced last year and what is it? Well, it's a little desktop synthesizer with your AK format. You can use it like this, which is with it's lovely wooden, end cheeks. It'S got a MIDI input, which is what I'll control it from for the time being. So I can plug that straight in and play it straight from my MIDI keyboard

 A input means I can boost again coming out, so I can start to clip it if I really want to get a bit funky with that, but that's nice and useful, and additionally, while we're at it. Let'S do something else here: let's take the VCO pulse without and put that into the external audio. Now what we're getting is pulse width wave and a triangle wave then modulated, there's quite a lot of stuff. You could do there with the sequencer

 Point on the patch Bay - that's actually quite nifty, because that assignable patch point means that through firmware updates, they can have it do lots of different things. It'S currently got a number of functions anyway, let's take a listen to a voice, starting with a sawtooth nice for the buzz good range on it. Let'S take a listen to the square wave, Oh for a long title variation of this they're moving on to the filter. The filter is actually quite interesting

  I can't get past having separate sequences as parts to a song. It always feels disconnected and hard to polish a full track.  I feel like Ableton *might* help with seeing a track laid out and help with mixing but I'm worried it would add a whole new huge layer of complexity when I'm already still trying to figure out so much.  So would it be easier to work inside a DAW when it comes to mixing and song structure?  Did I mess up by starting to learn music dawless?

 It sounds awesome. One could wish for a second oscillator like the Minitaur, but then the price would be a bit more too. Since it's Eurorack compatible, you can add another oscillator if you are going to use this in a skiff and build on it with other modules. If you want a bass synthesizer though that is stand alone, then perhaps the Minitaur is the way to go

So that's what I understand is that this could have come with nothing in it and the dealer would have added in whatever bank that you wanted and most likely the master group. So that's what's loaded here and the numbers correspond to the numbering

Unboxing a 1984 Yamaha DX7 in 2020

It would be a good buy if you plan on buying better headphones in the future, otherwise it might be overkill for the 650. You could get something like a Schiit Asgard with the dac module option (so just one box) for 300 dollars instead.

For comparison, the Schiit Asgard gets 600mW @ 300 ohms with single ended, so you would get more power and you would not need a new cable. But I would definitely just get the dx7 pro if you think you will ever upgrade your headphones in the future!

I'm currently using the HD650 headphones hooked up to a Dragonfly Red. I've read a lot of reviews on the Topping dac/amp and all of them seem to praise the performance of it, esp. considering the fairly low price. I recently noticed that Drop is selling the device for a discount and immediately thought of getting it. I mainly stream my music from Tidal. Does anyone here have experience with it, do you think it would be a good pair? I'm hoping it would be a big step-up from my current dac/amp. I'm not that keen on getting a stack, I like the form factor and convenience of having one box instead of two.

Topping DX7 Pro + Sennheiser HD650 = good pair?

Can you afford to have that $400 (and perhaps in the future, more) being locked up in a box?

That said, the factory set is really good by itself given the constraints, and the digital sounds it can do tread on PPG Wave territory.

After years of wanting a DX7, posting multiple post on here asking for advice,  I finally got one for a great price $400. For the most part the only patch I really find that met my expectation is the E piano patches. I was debating getting the Wavestate before do to the fact that it does a lot of sounds I like, and while it was difficult to program a bit I genuinely like the overall feel. I want the Wavestate and personally feel like I kinda had higher expectations from the DX7. I’m afraid of selling it and never finding one for this price again. A lot of the sounds the Wavestate achieve are very similar to the DX7 as well so i wonder how anyone feels about the Wavestate. 


Also I know the DX7 has the nightmare of FM synthesis so that’s also another downside. I wanna give it a full month before I decide to pull the trigger but a lot of the sounds I have on the DX7 just don’t make me wanna play a lot besides the E piano.
