As I read more into the brand, the Lange 1 was the piece that jumped out at me. Its asymmetric dial layout was compelling, looking balanced without being balanced. Finishing was top-notch too, with the beautifully adorned 3/4 plate and usual bells and whistles that have become hallmarks of the Glashutte watchmaker.

This Lange 1 model is 101.032 the first version of Lange 1 in rose gold with a case diameter of 38.5, and it has an off-centre time, patented large date and power reserve indicator, and it's power by a beautiful German silver manual winding movement. A

 Lange & Sohne again in 1990, four years later they launch their first range of watches; Lange 1 is one of the watch launches on October 24, 1994.

 Lange & Söhne has a very different history in the watch world, their history dated back in 1845 but ceased operation in 1948 after WWII. 42 years later, the great-grandson of the founder re-established the brand of A. Lange & Sohne again in 1990, four years later they launch their first range of watches; Lange 1 is one of the watch launches on October 24, 1994.

My one gripe with the Lange 1 and a lot of other Lange models, and models from other brands is an excessively large base plate covering what is otherwise going to be a mechanical delight of wonderfully finished parts, gears and so on. I would prefer if they openworked the plate as much as possible or broke it into several smaller parts so you could view some of the movement through the seams.

I picked up this watch about a week ago, just before Thanksgiving, to celebrate a big promotion. I'd been eyeing the Lange 1 for a while and the moon phase really completes the look. It was refreshing to not have to play any games to get this watch, either. I'd been to the boutique here in NYC a handful of times and stayed in touched with my salesperson, but wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger

I saw the Lange Datograph and realize that's never gonna happen. But it's the kind of thing I want. I think the Lange 1 has most of what I want in a grail but alas.

I tried this on on a whim while window shopping through the fancy watch boutiques in Ginza. The watch if beautiful, the design and movement are really interesting, and the fit and preportions were just perfect when I put it on. I had always thought El Primeros were pretty cool but they weren't something I was looking to buy, but when I put this on I wanted it immediately. My favorite watch of all time - legible, versatile, comfortable. Omega Speedmaster FOIS. This was my daily before I got the Explorer. Also very versatile, on leather it looks great with a suit too

Seriously, how many watches do you all have, and for what occasions?

I've just ordered [my first watch](https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1274071604100.html) as an adult, after decades of not wearing one or paying attention to  them. So, of course, I decided to look for a "Watches" subreddit to see if there was any knowledge to be had to "help" with my decision.

Cut  to a week later, and I'm spouting off to friends and neighbors about horological significance and quartz and the Swatch group and whether or not a Baume makes for a good EDC at my office.

So, first of all THANK YOU for all of the amazing resources in the pinned pages. In particular the brand and buying guides. And the rich post history. All good stuff and very much appreciated.

Secondly, I believe I may now have the addiction, so I (very jokingly) hate you all. I decided to start with something fairly basic (Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium Blue), but can already see that I'm probably going to be interested in at least a handful more, for different purposes/occasions/etc.

I'm genuinely curious about how many watches you all have, recognizing that everybody is different, and for what reasons/occasions?
