 So let me show you what's involved here. First of all, wave types you got three and i got ta actually send this to something. Let'S just do pitch easy to hear. This is how much [ Music ] great

 Kick this into unison. Maybe that's obviously uh fairly abrasive, but hopefully you get the idea and real quick. I want to run through a few presets just so you can get even more of an idea of what the range of this thing is and, of course there are plenty of user preset slots as well. So you can see how powerful the polyphony is on this thing like there are only four voices, so you want to be careful with letting notes bleed into each other because eventually they'll start to cut each other off

 It'S got two voltage controlled oscillators with a bunch of different shapes. They can talk to each other. You can have some sync going on between them mix the signals, a pretty solid filter that i really like the sound of some decent, although not crazy, in-depth modulation options and a bunch of ways to actually play the thing, such as a polyphonic mode, unison, chords, arps, Etc - and it's got a built-in delay, i'm going to get into a bunch of that stuff hands-on in a little bit here, but let's go beyond the spec sheet for a second. This thing just sounds really: nice [, Music, ], [, Laughter, ], [, Music, ]

 Yes, as you hopefully heard from that demo, the mini log sits in a really nice spot between kind of vintage and old school and modern and pristine. It'S got a bit of a reputation for sounding slightly on the bright, harsh and even a little bit metallic side, but it definitely does not have to sound like that. It'S got a pretty good range of sounds. I like it for kind of old school

The Original Korg Minilogue is STILL Great! (Review 2022)

In the end, it is a “lower-mid range” synth in terms of price and functionality, and I think it’s a perfect gateway to mid to higher end synths.

3. Sound: While I don’t think it’s as rich as a Prophet, it has a gritty sound. The sounds can be punchy, piercing, or raw. It’s up for your taste though

Why the Korg Minilogue?

 It definitely confirms my review, in that a few more effects have made a world of difference. I've been able to pump up the bottom end via EQ and a bit of reverb has given the sounds a lot more body. I also recently bought a Monologue and the two synths work together really well. I will be taking them on tour next month and I expect them to more than hold their own on stage

Minilogue is an interesting beast, a decent enough old-school analogue synth with a good set of modern, digital features that make it much easier to live with than Korg's other analogue offerings. For the price it is very hard to beat.  First up, the hardware is gorgeous. The aluminium front panel has a shallow curve to it and the real timber back panel hides the plastic chassis beneath

 The two oscillators have a great sound with really ballsy bass. The SHAPE knobs allow you to tailor the sound nicely. Modulating the pitch of one oscillator allows you to do some nasty hard sync sounds and RING MOD is good for metallic timbres. The lack of pulse-width modulation via either of the ADSR envelopes is disappointing but having a NOISE oscillator is handy

  First up, the hardware is gorgeous. The aluminium front panel has a shallow curve to it and the real timber back panel hides the plastic chassis beneath. The switches are beautifully tactile and the knobs have a nice rubber feel. The digital display is tiny but bright and crisp

3.5 Stars - A Good Mix of Old and New

 Somehow, I’m beginning  to wonder if the JD-08 isn’t the more interesting synth out of the two  new boutiques (and, as already mentioned, I’m really interested in this  form factor so there are few other options for me in this case). It just  seems like the JD-08 is sparkling a bit more, while still having the  ability to produce retrowave-compatible sounds.

* If I have batteries inserted and power it through usb-c, I would  expect it to seamlessly switch from usb-c power to battery if I unplug  the USB cable. Instead, it just shuts down. I lost a sound design in  process as a result of the USB cable coming loose, despite batteries  inside.

* The form factor is really neat. The build quality is great. It’s  heavier than I thought and perhaps not as easy to use on the lap unless  you have a healthy back and neck of a 20-year old (I’m not one of those  anymore, I’m afraid!), but the fact that it’s battery powered and can be  powered by usb-c is amazing and makes it so easy to plug and play. I  have a small pair of wired 3

5mm earbuds that I keep connected to it all  the time. It’s small enough that I can keep it in my narrow little  bedside table drawer, meaning it’s always close by when I feel like a  quick jam. The faders move a little too easily for my taste, but they’re  very responsive and accurate, so in practice they’re a joy to use.

 For super affordability and some polyphony, maybe a microKorg or MiniNova? Or for about the same price as a Minilogue, a Roland JD-XI or a Hydrasynth Explorer.

What I want to achieve is a kind of anticipated effect/looping/synth pedal for my guitar. 

I imagine it somehow like 1.) building an ambient synth soundscape, 2.) playing a bassline on top with the synth and 3.) improvise using my guitar that‘s feeding the synth. 

Can anybody tell me if this is possible with the Minilogue OG. Afaik the XD doesn‘t allow guitars as input.

Minilogue to accompany guitar

 The waveform display is not just fun but actually useful, you can see the effect of tweaks, not just hear it. The bass sounds great.  One star off, because there are minor 'clicks' as others posted, but with some tuning it doesn't bother too much.

Amazingly affordable and versatile 4-voice analogue synthesizer, hope Korg fixes the clicking in a future firmware update.

 Instead by digging deep into the menu)  Overall I understood that 500 will get you a purchase of x level quality, but my recommendation is that you don't sacrifice polyphony for sound. MS20 mini sounds substantially better than this. Honestly my microbrute sounds better than this and it was a whopping 299 USD .

 As much as I would like to say that it's an engineering marvel (as the Korg produced videos you see on YouTube like to say), it is genuinely lacking in some pretty big areas. The first one, is that infamous "click" and "pop" you hear so much about. On the presets, you don't hear it, but anytime you consider your own sound syntheses (like people do with SYNTHesizers) that click is very much present and drove me absolutely mad. The filter has to be adjusted between about 10 total degrees in relation to the knob to null out the click, giving me about 90% of a worthless filter

 It'S always the third one right you're, basically opening up the amplitude for the oscillator level. So if the oscillator is down like these are now you're only gon na hear the first one, because that's the only one that has the volume up, but if I turn up oscillator 2. 1. 2

 So, like anything else, you go to a sign once you're there. What do you want to assign that track to you holding down the track? Select if it's there, you just wiggle this boom it's assigned. This is so dope. Press play old record now turn this and I'm assigning this knob, which technically has no effect right now, because it's only for the state variable over there so check this out

 But for this purpose we'll bring that back down so effects. One will do you bounce back, Dooley, BBD, bucket brigade and not bounce back. What am I talking about to it cold time? Don'T need to sink it. So just have this crazy, sound, [, Music, ], [, Music, ] raw, sound, no effects, [ Music, ], [, Music, ] and just this sound alone is so fun to use

 Let'S see yeah filters open, but oscillator has a slop of 5 just a little bit just a tiny little bit right same with the oscillators here, oscillator 2. You go here a little bit of slop here, a little bit of slop. It'S little things like that when using a synthesizer that make it so playable, because when you go to a default patch, it just sounds [, Music ]. It just sounds good it just by default, sounds good, even weird things like this up, one octave down two octaves, that's again, weird little miscellaneous parameters that are by default, set in the default patch

 So, let's go to, let me know obviously cut off and stuff like that. Now, if you, if you need a dual modulation of the cutoff, you could do that here. Here is actually, let's assign this to an LFO just so you can hear what this variable state filter can do. So now, I'm modulating with an LFO that state variable filter
