I'd look at the Kona Dew series instead of the Treks. For a bigger guy that isn't racing I'd want a wider tire, and the FX surely doesn't give you that. The Checkpoint is a good gravel bike, but it comes with (barely adequate) 28 spoke wheels that are really too narrow for the wider tires you'll want to run.

I come to you today seeking your collective advice. This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons.

I’m a 34 year old male, a former smoker for 20 years (*I quit two months ago!*),  and am overweight. I’m 6’ and roughly 240lbs. I’m strongly considering  getting into cycling to lose this weight. For reference I’ve been  overweight since I was 16.

I live  in Colorado. Most of my biking will be on cement, asphalt, and some dirt  roads. I don’t intend to try anything “mountainous” for the time being –  but would like to be able to tackle some beginner trails eventually. I  also intend to use it to commute to work (about ½ mile each way). I plan  on getting a trunk mounted bike carrier for my car so I can go places.

I’m  trying to find a bike and from what I’ve read I’m either looking at a  “Hybrid” or a “Gravel” bike. The two that have caught my eye, if I’m on  the right track here, are the Checkpoint ALR 4 and the FX Sport Carbon  4. Both of these bikes are made by TREK.

What  do you all recommend? Or am I too big for these bikes? Should I be  looking for a different kind of bike? I have not climbed on a bike for,  like, 18+ years.

Ideally I want to be able to use it for exercise and for commuting to somewhere like a store. I’m really fond of Dutch style upright bicycles but i know they are super heavy and are not very fast. I’m looking for something in between that and a more traditional road bike that would be more lightweight and quicker. The roads here where I live are relatively flat, but are designed specifically for cars so space for walking and biking is quite limited. Ideally i’d like to keep it under 750$ but i will go as high as 1000$

I think Kona Dew range is the best combo of quality and value for money for 650b commuter bike. Would definitely recommend.

Prefer under 25lbs if possible.  Would also like disk brakes.  

Why do I want 650b tires?  I want a cushy ride and a lower stand over height.  So far, I’ve considered the Kona Dew plus.  

Budget $850. I don’t mind getting a used bike to stay in budget.

1, the Marin Fairfax 1 or 2, and the Kona Dew. I've also been interested in some 20-year old or so used bikes rebuilt by a local bike shop, though their stock is limited. For comfort, I hear a steel frame would be good, but new bikes in my price range with a steel frame seem scarce.

Hi everyone!

I am facing a special challenge as my (new) job is transitioning back to in-person attendance. Unfortunately, I moved from a big city to the middle of the Ozarks in the US for this job, and I'd never learnt to drive because I could neither afford a car, nor did I need to learn for daily deeds. 

But I can bike! I am somewhat of a newbie commuter, so I was looking to purchase a beginner hybrid bike. My budget is about $700 (maximum; cheaper bikes preferred), and unfortunately the local market is saturated and I can't seem to find a second-hand bike that's the right size (for context, I am F 5'3" (160cm)). The primary purpose would be to commute ~3 miles to work everyday, but I hope to bike for fitness as well. There are paved bike trails and such around, but there are some steep inclines on my way to work. 

My research is taking me to one of three bikes: (1) Marin Presidio 1, (2) Marin Fairfax/Terra Linda, (3) Trek FX1 Disc. Is this the right choice to make? Are there better options that I could be looking at?

Looking for Hybrid bike recommendations under US$700!

Road bikes are too fragile -- for me this is the perfect compromise. I often bike off road, but nothing extreme.

FX 2 Disc -- fast, responsive hybrid.

 You have to slam the gear changer up or back and hold it briefly to have the derailleur disengage from one sprocket and reengage to another. I'm sure I'll get used to it because I'm just looking at it as a new adventure every time I go for a ride. BYW what I really like about my FX2 is the weight compared to my Stache it's like night and day.

First Ride

My first product review ever:  When I signed up to do a metric century ride, I looked to replace my metal town bike with fenders for a lighter hybrid bike.  From the moment I mounted this bike, I knew it was the one for me.  It was light enough to lift with one hand and rode like the breeze.  The bike is both speedy and hill flattening

 This bike looks extremely clean and I freaking love that. I've gotten a lot of compliments about it and I think it's a very good looking bike. So this bike is labeled as a fitness bike. According to Trek, it's not a road bike
