 You can find it for around your budget of $250 and he'll be MUCH happier with that chair long term than any "gaming" chair or cheap Office Max chair.

Edit- just to give some context, it has to be purchased online. He is over 6 feet tall, if that matters at all, and has a bad back so something that’s really supportive would be great. Budget would be no more then 250$

Second edit- thanks for all the input I’m looking at some of these chairs and now realize I have a new challenge my bf is 6 foot 1 and almost 300 pounds. The weight requirement is worrying me I don’t want it to break on him. He would sit in this chair for hours, the chair he currently has is a old short Victorian looking armchair. It’s not supportive at all, I’ve seen the comments to buy one used and I’ll be looking into that but I doubt I will have much like around here.

What’s the Best computer chairs out there? Looking to get one for my boyfriend for Christmas.

 Easy to assemble, 10-15 min tops. They were clearly thoughtful about how to make this as convenient as possible for the customer. Overall, chair looks good (simple design), it's stable, and it's adjustable in the right ways except one: The handles only adjust up and down (not sideways). Comfortable for a 6'3" person

This is a nice chair. I bought the Advanced Syncro Tilt version. Easy to assemble, 10-15 min tops. They were clearly thoughtful about how to make this as convenient as possible for the customer

Nice chair, bad circumstances

 This is more of a seat than a true arm chair. Knowing now what it offers I would buy a less expensive chair with similar qualities. I am learning that sometimes you can trust the NY times column "The Wirecutter", where I read the recommendation for this chair and sometimes you've got to do your own research. The materials that went into manufactoring this chair and the design for sitting comfort don't IMO justify the 400 dollar price tag

The assembly was simple. The cushion is comfortable . The chair is relatively light in weight and it glides around on its wheels effortlessly. The back is just a thin cloth netting

Modern and Functional.

  First off - assembly was easy! Only had three screws :)  Rolling is extremely smooth! Maybe this is just what any new set of wheels feels like and my chair was old, but this is definitely nice to slide around in.  The back is pretty nice. When the product describes itself as having "lumbar support" It's hard to describe but I guess it's like a difference between a back that is cushy and gives-in, versus a region that remains firm; as opposed to a lumbar you'd find in a car or recliner that pushes into your back.  The seat is really nice and I appreciate this fabric over the "fake leather" stuff my old chair is currently flaking all of the floor

  I would return it if I could, but it’s just to large to carry down to a UPS and I don’t have the box so I assume there’s no option to do that anyway :/  I can’t say how much of this is my experience or all chairs. Great so far - early impressions

  Now for the negatives, The arms aren't that solid feeling and can shake when applying pressure. I'm 5'8 and this chair surprisingly doesn't go low enough to provide proper ergonomics for my legs. It only needs to go down a couple more inches but it is what it is.  My biggest complaint is the "Chair Base"

 You can buy a slightly used or sometimes even brand new Herman miller on craigslist or offer up for this price.

 I purchased my chair from “Advanced Teo Sales,” but I think it ultimately came from Madison Seating, for what that may be worth  Anyway, I’m happy with my purchase . . . as is my back and my wallet

 The particular chair I received had neither an odd smell nor a sloppy spray paint job 2. Installation is indeed pretty easy and there are only 3 pieces that slide into one another; however, I’ve not had a need to take the chair apart (and can’t imagine why I would), so I don’t know how hard a task that would be 3. As to the heaviness of the chair, yep, it’s pretty heavy, but you knew that after reviewing the specs, didn’t you—and, yeah, you may need someone to help you hold up the chair when attempting to align it to the arrows on the base of the chair as you put the chair together 4. I will update this review if I find anything worthwhile to report on, but for now I am happy to have saved money and given the wife something comfortable and ergonomic to sit on!

Great chair for a great price - don't let the refurb scare you!

* **The Steelcase Leap V2**. I’m not a fan of the recline mechanism (with the whole sliding seat thing), I never managed to find a proper lower back firmness setting (it was always too much or too little for me) and the adjustable lumbar dug into my back so I ended up removing it. And finally, one problem I should've foreseen before buying it : foam backrests are not a good idea for summer.

 I had to let the chair outgas in the garage for a few days to get rid of upholstery glue smells. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is the state of the arm rests (which could be tighter, there is a lot of play in them) and the action for the back tilt is a little off (leaning back is fine, but the mechanism does not recover quickly when leaning forward).

My options are - but I'm down to look for anything:

Alternatives to Steelcase Leap

. (5' 7", 145 lbs) it kept feeling like I was bottoming out on the cushion, and yeah I adjusted the chair in all sorts of configurations but my body didn't like it. Ended up selling it.

Recently came across the subreddit in my search for a fix to my broken ass. 

A little background, I've been recently having tailbone pain from sitting in some horrible cheap Ikea chair the past year while working from home. I also have cervical spinal stenosis (C5/C6 and C6/C7) and bilateral hip impingement to round things out a bit. Both are managed fairly well at the moment, so I'm aiming to fix the pain in my ass without disturbing my other issues. I also have a sit/stand Jarvis desk so I'm covered in that area. The tailbone pain starts within 15-20 minutes of sitting in my current chair, and its 1000x worse when I first stand up.

I'm 5' 10", 207 lbs. 

My work offers a WFH discount on two of the three chairs, and these are about as high as I'm comfortable spending at the moment. 

Without further ado... Any thoughts on the below options? Something else to consider?

* Steelcase Leap V2 ($550 new) 
* Haworth Fern ($810 new)
* HM Aeron B ($500 used)
