Cuisinart C77TR-8BD Triple Rivet vs Tojiro Bread Slicer F-737

I bought this 5 months ago, and the handle has cracked. If just goes in a drawer in the kitchen (with its sheath) and the dishwasher. Disappointing! I assumed this would last years, but now I doubt it. On the plus side the blade works great to slice homemade bread

For tough breads, best to use a draw cut, like with a Japanese saw. I've worked in commercial kitchens and have built boats, and I don't often have mishaps. I don't blame the knife -- it does what it is intended to do. Just something to be aware of if you are accustomed to stiffer blades

The knife is not the most beautiful and maybe not the sharpest either. But it is very sturdy and does the job well. I wanted decent quality but I saw no sense in paying top dollar for something exquisite. This one is just right

There is a lot of value here for the price. This bread slicer, though stamped stainless, has a very nice fit and finish and comes exceptionally sharp. Even though the knife is serrated, cleaning with a sponge revealed light passes were enough to cause clean and fine cuts into the sponge with virtually no pressure applied. A caution, however, is that this knife is clearly not designed to be used repeatedly on hard/hard-crusted breads

so my wife started to make bread at home, and what a great bread it was and I thought wouldn't it be nice if I had a true bread knife. Using serrated steak knives or similar just doesn't cut it no pun intended, and they do meaning Cutlery people make bread knives, so I looked at our Cutlery block from Cuisinart and knew they had a great brand and product support, as luck would have it I found the exact same style family as our block set and bought this knife. I like that it has the plastic sheath with the Cuisinart name on it, and the knife yes Cuts bread like the Dickens it cuts very well, just make sure to not abused it and take it down to the cutting board so you can keep the serrations living a good long life. We've had it for 2 months and it's the de-facto type of knife to use on any breads or Bagels

The finish of the handle appears to me a polymer-based sealant, and it has held up well to being hand washed in the extremely hard water of my region. Now, the best part of the knife - the blade. The steel has held up very well, and has maintained it's edge. I bake old-world style whole-wheat sourdough, which has a pretty dense crust and crumb

At less than $10 this Cuisinart bread knife does not look like our Global kitchen knives, but it works about as well as Global bread knives that cost $100-$190. (I know, comparing a Cuisinart knife to a Global knife is like comparing a Ford to a Rolls Royce, but when all is said and done, both of them will get you to and from work.)

If you're not cooking hard, crusty breads, this knife will work great. For the price, I'm still giving it a 4 stars since I know the bread I used it on was definitely on the far end of the scale in terms of crust hardness. It should work fine for most people and most breads. I paid $23 for this knife and if it ever got more expensive, I'd definitely consider something else
