At less than 20 lbs with a stiff carbon frame, this svelte bike is a feathery climber with excellent power transfer in or out of the saddle. The middle of the road geometry is comfortable, and the Grail is stable at speed on the descents and remains agile with responsive and predictable handling. The build is well chosen, with a quality Shimano GRX drivetrain and brakes, tubeless wheels and tires, and a unique but comfortable cockpit setup.  You get good value for money, really good equipment. You get Shimano's new gr x, 800 do to group set which is flawless fast roll and ties like wheels, get a nice lookin frame. I loved it. Blue black lightweight stiff and even even the handlebar, has almost won me over after several months of testing, but I'd love to see a regular, normal handlebar and stem offered in this range

 Sided two profiles on the top tube down tube, very clean. Very I don't want to say it, but very German looking, but it's not an ugly bike.  Not had to make any changes they reach from the saddle to the hood and the drops is just perfect for me and when I'm riding the bike in the hood, which my favorite position, it feels very similar to an endurance road bike. I think that's the best. Parallel for this bike, when you're trying to decide where it sits in the whole crime like category it's much closer to an endurance, road bike in terms of geometry and fit and how it feels when you're throwing it around corners, some gravel bikes lean much closer to A mountain bike when it comes to geometry, a slacker, longer reach sort of stems which is better if you're doing much more off-roading, much more challenging off-road terrain but leans towards man's bike, with rocky descents and very technical features. But if you're doing high speed well groomed kind of dirt roads and gravel tracks and a lot of Road, then a bike like this, which leans more tools and enjoy road bike, is a natural choice and an easy choice and if you're new to grab bikes, are You coming from a road bike background which many of you are then their transition in terms of handling and difference

 I think me really interesting to see how the bike would look and perform with a normal hand, bar and stem setup. I only had time to get it together and go for a brief shakedown ride, but it did not disappoint!

 Your feelings about the growl will probably boil down largely to how you get on with the hover bar we'll talk about that a bit later, but first of all, let's have a look at this build. This is the 2020 Canyon Grail and it's got grx components where previously it had standard Shimano Road kit on it. If you're used to Schmo knows Road ergonomics, then this stuff will be totally familiar performance wise. It feels just like your usual 105 Ortega group set

 However, a lot of other accessories that you would normally fit on a handlebar won't actually work because there's no round section anywhere on the bar, you can strap things to it if you've got lights with silicon straps they'll work, but anything that uses a straight forward bar Clamp just won't fit, so the Grail is a very capable, very unusual-looking, gravel bike. I completely applaud Canyon for doing something different with it. I don't think many manufacturers would have gone quite this extreme on the handle bar front. That bar does come with some caveats

 You get gravel friendly gearing, so that's a forty six, thirty double crank and an 11 to thirty four, so essentially, almost like a mountain bike cassette at the back gives you a pretty broad range for just about all riding, because it's a double, though the range is Wide enough with enough small steps that it works quite well on the road and off you get a nice set of alloy DT Swiss clinches they're, good width, a tuber is ready out of the box and they are fitted with these Schwalbe g1 white tan wall tires, Which, most importantly, look very cool, but also a very versatile choice of tire. They'Ve got a kind of small knobby block pattern, a little bit like an old kenda small-block, but with round knobs instead of square ones and they're all really really well on tarmac better than you'd think, while still being usefully more aggressive than just a slick off-road. So good all-round choice, if you're using this to kind of do everything bike. Obviously you hardcore, gravel riders may choose to change tires to suit conditions more precisely

 You can buy and your most affordable route into biplane handlebar ownership. I'M going to talk quite a lot about this handle bar, which canyon calls the hover bar, because it's very much the defining feature of this bicycle Canyon set out to build a comfortable high performance, gravel bike. And they could have done that by using suspension. The way specialist did, for example, with the Future Shop, but instead they designed this completely new and quite wacky handle bar, which incorporates lots of flex and also offers a variety of hand

 Only problem that I would say is that when you do take the rear wheel out, sometimes lining the through axle back up with the rear wheel can often be quite difficult and there's certainly an app to it, which takes a bit of time to get a half. Now the spec in terms of weight for this bike, it's a gravel buy. They are slightly heavier you're, never going to get one. That is quite quite as light as a road bike

 The feature of this bike - the stands out, the most is obviously the double bar now Kenyan call this the hover bar and the idea is basically that you have two levels: the first with a bit more compliance, so that when you going over a bit of rough Ground it has a bit of flex, and then it takes out those lumps and bumps so that you don't feel that build-up of fatigue in the shoulders and in your arms and then the lower bar is for. When you want a bit more of a rigid ride and you need a bit more control over the terrain that you're riding for me in practice, I find it worked really well. The first time I saw it I looked at, I thought, my goodness look at the stay of that, but honestly aesthetically, it's really growing on me and practically also. I really do think it does work and it's that little bit of suspension if you like in the front end - and it does take out a few of those blows

 Obviously it's a different system. They'Ve got rid of the quick release with these hydraulic systems.  They also have the perfect amount of grip for a bit of off-road, but not too much so that he can't keep up with your mates on road bikes got a pop. So it's going to be perfect over a multiple range of terrains and you can still put some power down and get some good speed on the flat to the Shimano. 105. Calipers are really economic really comfortable to ride with, and you can get a nice firm feel for the bike from them

Congratulations on the weight loss, you'll definitely notice a big change in your riding going to a roadie! They're a lot lighter and more responsive to power than hybrids and commuters and you will get a lot quicker on them, half the fun is the speed. And you needn't break the bank to get a decent one either, try get in contact with people you know who know bikes and shop second hand is good advice to pick up an affordable entry point. You can go new from shop but atm waiting times and bang for buck is a lot less favourable than it was pre-pandemic when the market for them was less crazy and manufacturers had to do more to sell them to people (better tiered groupsets, better stock wheels etc). Now there's waiting lists for bikes going into 2022 for next shipments because they can't make them quick enough

 They ride nice, I found mine quite racey as well as comfortable on endurance rides when I had it. And definitely upgradeable if you want to shed a scrappy groupset you don't get on with, or stock wheels to make your ride faster and more enjoyable, or to fit tubeless tires (love those).

I’ve lost 130 lbs since then (humblebrag). When I started riding, I’d ride a couple miles and average 9 mph. I’m now riding about 20 miles at a time at 13 mph. It’s a heavy bike, so I can’t help but think I’d be able to ride longer/faster on a road bike…

The question is - do you think it would be a significant difference for me? If so, I’m ready to make the next move into more “serious” cycling (I use quotation marks because I don’t want to discredit the cycling I’ve done).

I know I can spend a lot of money on a road bike, but I just can’t. Does anyone have experience with the Specialized Alllez? TIA!

Worth the move to a road bike?

 Sora is perfectly utilitarian if your price point is firm and you know you need discs.

First a little bit of background - I am a heavy guy (\~210 lbs), who has been doing easy cycling for the past 4 years (50-100 miles a year, during summers) on the [Fuji sportif 1.5D](https://archive.fujibikes.com/2015/Fuji/sportif-15-disc) that I bought in 2016. This year, I am planning to crank it up and in need of a new bike. I really liked the Fuji I had, but there are certain things that I am looking for in the new bike:

* Looking for Shimano 105 groupset. Fuji had an interesting mix of sora shifters and front derailleur with Tiagra rear derailleur. I live in the greater Seattle area and there are a lot of hills here. While Sportif was okay - I want to go a little higher on the gearset and want a 105, although if I can't get that, will probably settle on Tiagra.
* Sportif had vittoria zaffiro 700 x 28c. 28 just isn't cutting it for me. I am a heavy guy and the ride is pretty stiff. Hitting pavements is a nightmare. What would be the ideal width here? 32? I don't do gravel at all - so it's pavements mixed with roads.
* I want an endurance frame that is easier to ride for hours. Planning to crank up to 50-mile rides.
* Disk brakes are important for me. It's pacific northwest and it rains a fair bit here. Wet + hills without disc brakes with a heavy body is something I am not willing to risk on.
* I am constrained on budget and don't wanna go above $1500. 

All the research that I have done until now - can't seem to find anything that matches all criteria. The closest I have found:

* [Masi Vincera Tiagra](https://www.sunandski.com/p/77210056650002110/masi-men-s-vincere-tiagra-road-bike-21). The 105 gearset on this is a whopping $500 more. Looks like a decent build, although with a 105 gearset - on expensive side. The tires are 700 \* 30c. I would have ideally liked a 32.

I have never used one and don't know what to compare this gearset to, and the bike seems to be heavily gravel-oriented rather than road-oriented.
* [Ribble CGR AL](https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-cgr-al-orange-shimano-105/build/#Bike) \- Gravel-oriented bike but I can customize and choose a 700 x 35c tire. Its slightly wider, but I think it works? Also, this is on the expensive side and the website doesn't describe how much the import duty is going to come to.
* Found this on [bikesdirect](http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/disc-brake-roadbikes/lechampioncf-disc-comp-discbrake-road-bikes.htm). It has 28 width tires, and from what I am a little iffy on bikesdirect.

Some other brands I have found and liked are all outside US brands (Ridley, Merlin) and I am not sure how I can get them here (Merlin is asking \~$400 for shipping).

Would be great if I can get some advice on these options from the community or perhaps be recommended another bike that fits the bill.

Looks like a decent build, although with a 105 gearset - on expensive side. The tires are 700 * 30c. I would have ideally liked a 32.</li>

Its slightly wider, but I think it works? Also, this is on the expensive side and the website doesn&#39;t describe how much the import duty is going to come to.</li>

<p>Some other brands I have found and liked are all outside US brands (Ridley, Merlin) and I am not sure how I can get them here (Merlin is asking ~$400 for shipping).</p>

<p>Would be great if I can get some advice on these options from the community or perhaps be recommended another bike that fits the bill.</p>

Need Advice - Road bike under $1500

-and if I am able a 15 mile zone 2 the morning of the day before my weekend ride (16mph avg, mid 80s cadence)

I am pretty sure my issue is that I'm am muscling through that first 35, and have nothing left once the muscles are done. I usually finish with a 60 something cadence, so I know I'm just grinding to hold 22+ speed, when I try to spin I just start gapping and my heart rate goes through the roof.

 I rode around the block and it was mesmerizing. Night and day different between this one and the other bike. Felt amazing. 

For 4 years I had a Scott bike I bought here in my local store, for about $400-500. Live in south Texas. Rode everyday for a year or so, lost lots of weight. Eventually I did get bored with it, rode less and less consistently

The decision I went for my second bike.

Look for Shimano groupset (basically all of the gears, shifting, and mechanical parts put together) and below I will list their groupsets from Shimano from "worst" (the "worst" is still great and will serve you very well) to best.

New to Cycling

I cant speak for the others but i bought the allez elite endurance as my first road bike 5 months ago. Absolutely love it!!
