The ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM is the best G-SYNC monitor we've tested. It's a great monitor, and it delivers an excellent gaming experience. Its fast refresh rate results in superb motion handling, with an incredibly fast response time at any refresh rate, resulting in extremely clear motion with no noticeable blur behind fast-moving objects. It also has fantastic low input lag, ensuring your actions are in-sync with the action on-screen.

It has very good peak brightness with SDR content and good reflection handling, so glare isn't an issue in bright rooms, and the image remains accurate when viewed from the side, so it's great for sharing the screen with someone else. It supports HDR, and although it has a low contrast ratio, bright highlights in games stand out well. It also has an incredibly wide color gamut, with nearly complete coverage of the DCI-P3 color space used by most current HDR content, ensuring your favorite games look vivid and life-like.

Sadly, it's not a good choice for a dark room, as blacks look gray and patchy, and the local dimming feature is bad. It also lacks a backlight strobing feature, which is a bit surprising. Overall, it's a great monitor for almost any usage.

The best 1440p G-SYNC gaming monitor we've tested is the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM. Having a monitor with native G-SYNC support is beneficial if you have an NVIDIA graphics card and want to take full advantage. You get a few extra perks to go along with the native G-SYNC support, like NVIDIA's Reflex Latency Analyzer Technology, which measures the latency of your computer.

The PQ279QM has an incredibly fast 240Hz refresh rate, and even if you have a PC or console with an AMD graphics card, we confirmed that FreeSync works on it. Input lag is incredibly low at its max refresh rate, and even though it increases at 60Hz, this shouldn't be a problem for most people. On top of that, the response time is remarkably fast both at its max refresh rate and at 60Hz, which makes motion look extremely smooth, but there's some overshoot with a few of the overdrive settings.

Unfortunately, while it displays a very wide HDR color gamut and has decent peak brightness, its low contrast ratio and terrible local dimming feature make blacks look gray with blooming around bright objects in dark scenes. Many people will say that 27 inches is the best monitor size for gaming, and that's because most gaming monitors are available in a 27 inch model. You can find anything from basic 1080p screens to high 4k resolutions, and you can also find monitors with 60Hz refresh rates or with stunning 240Hz refresh rates. 27 inch monitors are good if you want more screen space than a 24 or 25 inch display, and you find 32 inch screens are too big.

There are 27 inch models for different types of gamers. If you're a PC gamer, you can easily find a 27 inch monitor with a high refresh rate and VRR support to reduce screen tearing, and while most have native FreeSync support, some have native G-SYNC support, too. If you tend to play on a console, there are some 4k options available with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, and there are also a few 28 inch models with a 4k resolution if you want something slightly bigger.

If you find the Dell Alienware AW3423DW too expensive and don't care about the best picture quality or don't want an ultrawide display, the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM is a cheaper option you can get in the mid-range category. It's a 27-inch, 1440p monitor with impressive gaming performance. The benefit of getting the 1440p resolution is that it gives crisp images and sharp detail while gaming and isn't too taxing on your graphics card. Its fast 240Hz refresh rate results in superb motion handling, with an excellent response time at any refresh rate, resulting in extremely clear motion with no noticeable blur behind fast-moving objects. It also has very low input lag, ensuring your actions are in-sync with the action on-screen.

This monitor also offers a few NVIDIA proprietary features like the Reflex Latency Analyzer, which measures the latency of your entire setup. While you don't get the same dark room performance as the AW3423DW, it's still a good choice to use with a few lights around as it gets bright and has good reflection handling, so visibility isn't a problem in a well-lit room.

If you want to save some money and still want a high-end monitor with a ton of features, then something in the upper mid-range category like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM is a good choice. It's different from the Dell Alienware AW3423DW because it has a 2560x1440 resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so you get a smaller screen, and it also doesn't have the same remarkable picture quality, but that's the trade-off you need to make for something cheaper. However, the ASUS has a much higher 240Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for high-frame-rate gaming if your graphics card supports a 1440p signal up to that frame rate.

Like the Dell, it has native G-SYNC support, and there are a few extra features you can take advantage of with an NVIDIA graphics card. It has NVIDIA's Reflex Latency Analyzer, which helps measure the latency of your entire setup so you can identify which sources cause the most delay. The input lag of the monitor itself is very low, and you won't feel any delay with it. The response time is also excellent across its entire refresh rate range, resulting in smooth motion with fast-moving objects.

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card and want to take full advantage of it with the native G-SYNC support, consider a monitor like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM. While the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85 has G-SYNC compatibility, the native G-SYNC support on this monitor provides a few extra features, like NVIDIA's Reflex Latency Analyzer, letting you measure the latency of your entire setup. Speaking of which, it has low input lag at its max refresh rate, and even if it increases a bit with lower frame rate signals, it's still low enough for a responsive feel.

There are a few differences in picture quality with the Samsung monitor. The ASUS has a lower 1440p resolution, so images don't look as sharp, but that's good if you're looking for the best 1440p 240Hz monitor. It's also worse for dark room gaming as blacks look gray, and its local dimming feature performs terribly. Luckily for gaming, motion looks smooth as it has a quick response time with minimal motion blur. It doesn't have a backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur, but it's unlikely you'll need one since motion looks smooth even without it.

 This monitor is actually better than most monitors at 60 hertz. But that's because it's doubling each frame and refreshing at 120 hertz. This helps it achieve a faster response. Time now, a low input lag is really important for a responsive, feel when playing video games

 You could try disabling the overdrive setting to get no overshoot at all, but the response time is slower in all transitions. We recommend leaving the overdrive setting to normal or esports. If the frame rate drops when you're gaming, then luckily the response time is remarkable. At 60, hertz there's a lot less overshoot and motion looks smooth even when gaming at lower refresh rates

 Now, let's look at the tests and we'll start with the contrast. A high contrast ratio is important if you use the monitor in the dark for deep dark scenes. Like many monitors, it has an ips panel with a low contrast ratio, blacks, look grey in the dark, so it's not good for dark room. Gaming

 So there it is, the PG279QM, and I think it's the best 1440p monitor that you can buy right now. I would just recommend that you take a look at as well the 27GP850 from LG, and just consider whether that extra refresh rate here is kind of worth it for you. I think the better option for most people is going to be the LG, most people don't need beyond 180Hz, but if you are just seriously looking for a zero compromise option, and you do play competitive shooters like Valorant for example as well, then the extra money probably will be worth it for you. Especially consider that this is a gaming monitor that is going to last you a very very long time

I love this huge display, basically that's the review! If, like me, you have zero interest in gaming at 4k and find 1440p the perfect 'sweet spot' then this is the display for you.

 With competition heating up in the 240Hz market, ASUS are hoping this display has what it takes to compete with the likes of Samsung's Odyssey G7 and Alienware's AW2721D, among others. It's also a true successor to ASUS' highly popular PG279Q, which launched over five years ago as a high-end 1440p high refresh rate display. The PG279QM not only enables a higher refresh rate, 240Hz vs. 165Hz, but it also brings with it a wealth of newer monitor technologies, including wider IPS colour gamuts, faster response times, an improved G-Sync processor, and more

 Welcome back to Hardware Unboxed, today we're reviewing a brand new monitor from ASUS. In fact, it's so new that at the time of making this video, I don't think you can actually buy one. You will be able to shortly, but just not at the moment. It's the ROG Swift PG279QM, ASUS' first 1440p 240Hz IPS monitor to hit the market after it was announced back at CES of this year

 The other main 240Hz IPS display I've reviewed is the Alienware AW2721D, which comes in at $825. The PG279QM is fast overall in terms of motion performance, and includes proper sRGB emulation where the Alienware monitor does not at all. The ASUS product is therefore better in most areas, and definitely worth the extra $25. It remains to be seen how it stacks up against the cheaper Gigabyte FI27Q-X, which I should be testing soon, but Gigabyte does have a hefty task ahead of them

 All up it will set you back $850 USD when it goes on sale soon, a high price for sure, but around the mark of other high-end 1440p displays. Design wise, the PG279QM is very similar to ASUS' current generation of ROG gaming monitors. This means there is quite a bit of gamer style on the front and back, from the stand that features these copper highlights, to the rear which has RGB LED lighting and a patterned design. It really is a personal preference thing so it's hard to criticise ASUS too much for continuing to use a design that consumers are still buying in droves, but I've said a few times that I'm not a huge fan

 This gets worse depending on the angle. However I believe this issue is common with similar panels and I’ve read a handful of reviews that mention the same thing with this model, including in their replacements. So I think it’s normal for the PG279QM but a downgrade from the previous PG279Q. The PG279QM menu buttons are easy to use but very clunky, which is a downgrade from the PG279Q

 The viewing angles are ok but you might notice a slight drop in quality from different angles, depending on what you’re looking at. The very edges and corners of the screen are slightly dimmer/ darker. This gets worse depending on the angle. However I believe this issue is common with similar panels and I’ve read a handful of reviews that mention the same thing with this model, including in their replacements

Great monitor with some issues

I will be returning this due to this alone. * Lack of mechanical vertical angle -selection - solved this by tossing some paper under the feet to angle it "higher up" towards my eyes instead of my torso - this also somewhat helped with the blue hue color shift. * Time to pick up that 48Gbit/s specced Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable tomorrow - although I was able to get it running with 4k @ 120Hz, 12bit colors and VRR - there's some random blinking with this 2.0 High speed HDMI -cable

My new LG C2 42" arrived today and really liking it so far. I previously tried the 48", but it was just a little bit big for me. Still playing around with the settings so hopefully someone will publish a guide soon!

My LG C2 42" arrived today!

 I continue to think that a hundred and mid Hertz is kinda. What most people are gon na see the most benefit from.. So this is a really good middle ground resolution, refresh rate and, of course, cost is a big factor in a product like this one

? So it's a wide gamut high resolution 2560 by 1440.. So that's a very similar density to that old Apple cinema display., Not only that it only costs like 700 US dollars

 This is a new stance on this issue for me. Uh. We did a whole video about how you're just better off having a 1440p display., And if it's not sharp enough, you can throw AA the problem

 Yeah. I just don't think 4K is necessary for gaming. It's cool and if I'm sitting this close to it yeah, I can see it, but it's not necessary.

 She's a big boy for a 32", so if you're trying to fit it into a spot & not onto a desk, check the dimensions twice.
