Vertx Gamut 2.0 | The Perfect EDC & Gray Man Bag

So as the title suggests, I'm looking for a nice EDC backback that ranges towards the more tactical side of things. I want something with a large variety of compartments, something that is a bit stealthy at the same time and not screaming 'military' all over it. On the daily I carry my laptop, IFAK and so forth. Preferably looking for bags around the 25L-30L volume range. 

Thankful for any tips!

Tips for a good EDC backpack?

 However, when I tried to transfer the contents of the Maxpedition to the Gamut, they didn’t all fit. The main problem seemed to be that, while taller, the Gamut’s compartments were somewhat shallow front to back and it was more of a challenge to pack everything into it. The front “admin” compartment was also pretty useless as it was very flat and there was very little space. The side pockets were very limited too

Not Worthy of the Hype

 What I like is that you can look a water bottle, say, loosen it up a little bit and then put this end over the cap if it has a cap like that, and that will really keep it in place. So, of course, we have an additional piece here if you want to hook something to there that sound like a d-ring or something like that, feel free to do so again. This other side is pretty much identical and then the pockets are zippered again with YKK zippers. They open up and they're going to have a bunch of different compartments again, which is nice

 If you want to, if you don't want to flap it around and put it behind the padding there and put it all the way down, so that certainly is nice, and then we should get into this. We have this again most of the pull tabs here. Have the little vertex logo on there and appear to be some sort of? I don't know it's not like a it kind of looks like paracord, but thinner. Does that make sense material? But if you leave this all the way open, you can pull this giant one here to close it

 It kind of doesn't look super tactical which I do like and it has a pretty good capacity. I think the max capacity is 28 liters, but considering how small it is. That'S pretty impressive, in my opinion, so we're going to get into the actual bag, what all the different pockets and pouches and all that stuff are and then at the end, we'll, let you know we think of it overall to me when I look at this bag. The thing that really stands out about it is that it doesn't scream tactical, so I think, for sort of the gray man concept, if you will, this is a great bag for that, and although it does have a lot of tactical type capabilities, all as an upgrade Everyday carry everybody use, type features as well, so we'll try to cover all that here

 Should you choose to do so, but that is the front compartment basically and how it works. Getting into the main compartment is pretty easy and it opens all the way up, which is also really nice. So basically, we have our zipper here. We'Ll give this one down this one over if you set it up so that way, you actually button down these buttons

-Water bottle pockets (ideally two)

Is it just technically too hard to make a small bag that clamshells open and still has room for external pockets?

Does this bag not exist?

I tried to like this bag. The one I received has some zippers which stick and annoy me but trying to find the Vertx pouches for the main interior for the sizes I need has been a nightmare (3-4 months back-order to cancel). At this point, I'm debating getting some male Velcro and having some sewn—which is a shame because the long ones I got from Vertx have been quite nice but getting stuff was like pulling teeth.  Anyway, the draw pocket and place for armor is nice and one of the reasons I liked the pack

Hi, I'm looking for a new backpack for university and a bit of travel. Here's my wishlist! (BTW I'm in Germany, so a lot of the niche American brands aren't available here). Ideally around 25L range.

1) Ideally I would like a separate compartment for my laptop at the back where the padded laptop sleeve doesn't quite reach to the bottom of the bag.

2) Main compartment that opens all the way like a suitcase. I've seen the Bellroy transit bags, but they're a bit too pricey for a student. I would mainly use this for storing my lab coat and lunch while on campus and for hopefully enough space for weekend trips while traveling.

3) Would be extra nice, but not essential: a small front pocket to store pens, pencils, etc.

Right now I have a cheap canvas bag that works okay, but it only has one main compartment with a laptop sleeve. I've added some padding to the laptop sleeve, but end up digging through my stuff to get out what I need for a lecture. Two compartments would solve this.

Edit: Unfortunately the bag has to be a bit more budget friendly, no more than 130€ please. Though there are amazing more expensive bags, I just don&#39;t have the funds.

Backpack with separate, floating laptop sleeve

Very over rated

Im desperately looking for a new bag, and there's so many bags that fit my need! Some of them are expensive and I'm like "maybe that's value", and at the same time I see a cheaper one and am like "hey, it fits my needs and its cheaper, should be good". Can someone give me a SOLID suggestion, tell me and I'll go for it.   


Criteria:  
\- Gonna use it mainly for commuting to work and going to school, so needs to be able to fit a 13 inch MB Pro and keep it safe (like padded compartment). Some extra organizational pockets would be a plus.

\- Built for hiking (waterproof/resistant, robust to some extent). Doesn't need to be a proprietary one for hiking, if it has some features that would hold up to hiking, that's fine. 

\- Aesthetically pleasing, I hate ugly logos (like osprey's....sorry). Not the biggest logo person, but if its a clean minimal logo, I'm down for it.

\- Budget I want to keep it under $180 CAD (so with tax it comes to like $200), so that's like $140 USD. I know its not alot of wiggle room for a good bag, but ah well. 

\- Able to hold up maybe 5 years? I have a good history with keeping good care of bags, I still have this old nike bag I used for like 8 years daily in usable condition.  


I want to go for the AER City Pack in X-Pac, but the sensible side of me is reluctant, especially since I'll be slapped with shipping (and maybe duties as well) on top of the already $220 CAD price tag. I also looked into the ACG Karst (Nike), but reviews don't seem the best. I have also looked into the DB Scholar, but am concerned if its not worth the value since an extensive review I read on it said it has some design flaws that leave a bad taste.  


I realize my criteria is very stingy, but I really don't wanna break the bank yet, since I still got tuition and rent coming up.

Help with finding a bag

 There is no way to tighten it so hold the laptop in place. Had a P50 in it, it would rock back and forth whenever I walk. What a bummer.
