So, overall, this is a pretty sweet bike and i can see why this is one of the best bikes in the us, as well as one of the best-selling hybrids.

Trek FX is a great commuter bike. Cheap but still has quality parts. Light, so it’s easier on hills. Has attachment points for racks and fenders.

Honestly I'd look at used Hybrids or bikes on craigslist or Facebook Marketplace if you have a $500 max. They are sooo much better. I have a 2016 Trek FX Hybrid bike I bought off craigslist and I rode it a ton until I decided to buy a road bike. No issues with it at all other than normal stuff like a couple of flats.

I recently got a Trek FX 3 Disc bike. I absolutely love it. New they go for about $900, I got it used for $700. It’s a fantastic bike, lighter than my old bike, set up like a road bike but it has upright handlebars like a hybrid.

I started on a Trek FX. It’s considered a fitness style bike. Has a more upright posture than your typical road bike.

Look at Trek FX, Giant Escape, Cannondale Quick, Specialized Sirrus, etc. If you have the budget, try to get the next model up from base that does away with the 7-speed freewheel in favor of an 8-speed cassette. MTBs are pigs on the road, road bikes are the most efficient (and *never* have a flatbar), hybrids are sorta in-between, but excel at nothing other than having the best utility for dollar.

Cheap bikes are expensive in the long run. Get a fitness bike (its called hybrid sometimes) like the Trek FX 2. Every big bike brand has fitness bikes around 500€ / USD

They are great commuters.
