If it will just be a hobby, I’d look for a lower-end road bike from a reputable brand. Something like a Giant Contend AR3, or Cannondale Synapse Sora, or Trek Domane AL2. If you think it’s something you want to do a lot, I’d recommend going up a few trim levels, likely a carbon frame with Shimano 105 (ex. Domane SL5).

For that price I was pretty happy with a Trek Domane SL5. I live in a city and it gets the job done.

I have the Trek Emonda SL5 and it's a great bike for the price. Shimano 105 is almost as good as Ultegra (it just feels marginally less smooth, but you wouldn't notice unless you have rode thousands of KM on Ultegra). I also think the Emonda is the most aesthetically pleasing bike in that price range as well.

My first road bike is a specialized allez, and then I upgraded to domane sl5. I would say I am doing a little bit faster(use to cruise around 27kmh, now I can do 31/32 kmh) but also the bike just feels so much better in general. For instance the domane sl5 absorbs the vibration so well that I don’t hurt my ass after a long ride anymore.
