 Now it doesn't fold down so access to your cargo area is very limited depending on your vehicle so you'd have to remove this bike rack in a lot of cases to be able to get in and out. So to get the arms to fold down we're going to pull on this pin at the bottom of the arm and this will allow us to push it down. We have our second hole right here that we'll push the pin into to lock it into place and then we'll repeat on our other arm. So this is a platform style bike rack which means our wheels will sit in these loops

 Let's start by taking a look at our shank. This comes with an inch and a quarter shank with a two inch adapter. If your vehicle does not need the adapter you can remove it by taking out this screw using the provided Allen wrench. Now to install it on your vehicle you'll just take the shank and you'll line it up with your hitch receiver and then we'll push it in till our two pin holes line up

 Now these loops are adjustable we're just going to loosen that up and allow you to move it to adjust with the wheel base on your bike. Now these loops can hold a wheel size of up to 20 to 29 inches and this rack can hold two bikes at a time with each bike being able to weigh up to 35 pounds for a total weight capacity of 70 pounds. So let's go ahead and get this ready to put a bike on. We always want to load heavier in the front so we're going to get our front spot open

To start we're going to lower this middle arm it has this pin at the bottom right here we're going to pull and that will allow us to fold it down which will make it easier for us to put our bike into place.  The first issue I found was that one of the quick lock pins was missing it's bearing and spring which meant a trip to the hardware store to buy a replacement pin so I could actually use the rack. I solved that problem. The next issue I noticed is that it can be difficult to unlock the hold down clamps. For the folks that don't have good hand strength I suggest looking elsewhere for a bike rack

 The second issue is that the stirrups or bottom support don't have clamps and bend easily, meaning you want to put enough pressure on the bike you are transporting to create a secure and firm hold on the support, yet the supports are flimsy and bend. I find this to be a rather glaring design flaw and I would be embarrassed if this were my product as this is the reason why I can no longer use this rack and have to spend my hard earned money on another.  So let me re-iterate. This is a nice, sturdy and functional rack but there is really no way to tell if your bikes are secure and if you tighten the bikes down too much, you'll break the rack

 When I hit a pothole a few miles from my house my bike bounced out of the stirrups (bottom support) and fell between them damaging my car. It was also a close call as things may not have gone as well if I had gotten on the freeway before this happened which was where I was headed.   As far as locking - yes, you can install a small padlock on the upper hook. I would not recommend though that you trust this solely for anti-theft because, as I point out above, there's enough play in the wheel loops to possibly allow the hook to be undone if the loops were loosened. I'd recommend locking the bikes to the rack using either the separate lock and cable, or getting a separate locking cable.  Also, I do recommend a lock and cable to secure the parts when bikes aren't on the rack, or locking the wheel hoops and hooks some other way - my cable and lock are backordered, so in the meantime I ran a standard bike cable through the wheel loops and then through the hasp on the padlock which I locked the upper hook with

 There's enough play in the wheel loops that the bike could still bounce out, so I secured all four bikes' wheels to the wheel loops using bungee cords - but I bought Velcro tie down straps, as even the bungee cords had a little too much give for my liking. I think that will be more than secure enough.  As far as locking - yes, you can install a small padlock on the upper hook. I would not recommend though that you trust this solely for anti-theft because, as I point out above, there's enough play in the wheel loops to possibly allow the hook to be undone if the loops were loosened

 Keeps the bikes from moving and banging into each other without significantly tying them down. The hanging type leaves more potential points of failure, which made me uncomfortable at times. Most notably here, you can mount a woman's bike without the center horizontal adapter needed for the hanging type. But IMPORTANT - you need to adjust so that the hooks grab at the lowest point (this is also true for a man's bike which may have a slight slope)

 I'd recommend locking the bikes to the rack using either the separate lock and cable, or getting a separate locking cable.  So one of the things that I really like about this bike rack is that it has these very simple to use hooks which mount the or secure the bikes onto this rack. I've seen other bike racks where you have similar to this but you have to put like a strap in the middle and that's kind of annoying because sometimes you have to rotate the wheels. It just has to fall into place as you can see here. Both wheels fall into place

 So next we want to install these holder trays, and they get fastened with four carriage bolts, and then we have these adjustable nuts as well. We don't want to tighten them up yet because we'll have to adjust them later on when we put the bikes on here. But for starters, we just want to slide them into place and then we'll loosely fit these fasteners on there. So we'll do that next

 Like the bike doesn't move, that's just the rack moving. So I think that's going to work. So now that I have the bikes positioned in place, this is going to be their final resting place. Now I can finally screw these down, get them nice and tight and then that's going to permanently lock them in place

 So what I ended up doing is, I wanted it to be at the lowest point of the frame on my road bike as well. So I flipped my road bike around and moved it as far this way as I could. And then that way it is now clamped at the intersection of the top tube and the seat tube. So we're good there with the road bike

 So when they slide on, they will lock into place. And then when you want to move it, you just push this down and it's spring loaded. So then you can adjust it up or down and it'll hold it firmly. So it's just a matter of sliding them on
