RockyMounts MonoRail vs Swagman XC2

I was having an issue with the hanging type bike rack where the bikes dangle from metal posts. My bike, Trek hardtail, would mount with no problem and pretty much stay in place whereas my wife’s, Schwinn girly bike, would bounce all over the place. The reason why hers would not stay in place was it required a special arm that attached to the seat post and the handlebar. I constantly had to stop and reposition wherever we went

One other point, some reviewers have commented that their bikes shake on the rack. That does not typically happen. I would check to make sure (a) that the bike is seated appropriately in the wells, (b) the bar holding the bike in place is secure, and (c) that the hex nuts located below the vertical bar are secure. Last, I see the cost of this item has increased about 70% above what I paid 8 months ago! I know that biking has become more popular with Covid, but this kind of increase seems unwarranted

I am giving this 5 stars for now as I have had the rack since June of '17. It works as advertised, easy to load bikes on without having multiple lock downs. Holds my mountain bike securely and has very minimal wobble. It is a bit heavy, but no more than other racks I have used

I used to take the rack off each time I used it, but the threaded bolt makes it difficult to constantly take on and off, so it is on for now. Hopefully nobody steals it, because I can't find hardened locks for the security bolts. In addition to this, the included security loop is pretty flimsy.

My only concern is the two locks. There is one for the hitch pin and one used to secure the bike cable. They do not look solid at all, I bet I could knock them off with a hammer. Other than that, this is a great rack and I'm very happy with it

Now it doesn't fold down so access to your cargo area is very limited depending on your vehicle so you'd have to remove this bike rack in a lot of cas...

This product is sturdy and well-designed. It is easy to load and folds when not in use to save space. Excellent product.

The second issue is that the stirrups or bottom support don't have clamps and bend easily, meaning you want to put enough pressure on the bike you are transporting to create a secure and firm hold on the support, yet the supports are flimsy and bend. I find this to be a rather glaring design flaw and I would be embarrassed if this were my product as this is the reason why I can no longer use this rack and have to spend my hard earned money on another. So let me re-iterate. This is a nice, sturdy and functional rack but there is really no way to tell if your bikes are secure and if you tighten the bikes down too much, you'll break the rack
