I used a spectra s2 and loved it. Very easy to use and my husband's insurance actually covered the cost of it.

What is a good breast pump to buy? They are pricey so I don’t want to make a bad purchase. So many different brands! I would love your recommendations!

Recommended breast pump!

 I use a larger size Medela shield, and with the standard S2 shields I could feel that some ducts did not empty.  Before I purchased the pump I did email the company to ask about the size of the shields, among other things. They wrote back and said there are larger shields available, but that some women have made the Medela shields work with this pump. Another reviewer on Amazon has posted a diagram for how to make the Medela shields work, and I suppose this is at least unofficially sanctioned by the company if they mention it in emails! I did try the Medela shields using this method and found it worked fine

 I can use the small S2 shields if I need to, but I cannot comfortably use the standard Medela. Unfortunately they are not big enough for me. I use a larger size Medela shield, and with the standard S2 shields I could feel that some ducts did not empty.  So while it is not heavy it's very bulky. So if you look at it it kind of reminds me of like a bowling ball y'all. I don't know why they picked this shape. It does have a handle which is nice but because of the footprint of it can you imagine putting this in any bag? Like it's going to take up your entire bag

So that's one thing that I don't like is the shape of it and just overall it's bulky. If you're traveling you gotta take this big thing with you

 The Spectra S2, when you get it, it comes with two different sizes. So it comes with the 24 millimeter and the 28. I have the 24 that's typically common for most women, but it does come with both. You also get the duck bill, the bottle, and you get two of these

 The suck power and speed, tubing connection, and back flow protector is what hurts this pump's review.

 The maximum cycle on the letdown mode is 70 cycles per minute and 54 cycles per minute in regular mode. This is where Spectra loses a star. My baby breastfeeds much faster than 54 cycles per minute and also has a more powerful suck than the maximum of this pump. The Lasinoh and Medela beat Spectra here because they have a higher power and therefore get the milk out quicker and more effectively

 I have used the Medela Pump in Style and the double Lasinoh pump. The Lasinoh pump held up with over 10 uses a day for a year and 5 years later, digging it out of storage, still works! This Spectra pump is much quieter than both the other pumps and has a gentler and slower maximum suction. Pretty much just what it says in the title. I also was looking at Medela, Spectra, and Ameda, but they all have mixed reviews. The Elvie and Willow are $500 so I was hoping to make sure they're going to work well.

I'm buying a breast pump as a gift for a friend. She didn't like the manual kind and said electric were pretty expensive for the good ones and wouldn't buy one herself although she wishes she could afford to. I might get her the Elvie or Willow, but do they work as well? I'm a guy, so I'm naive here

For context I'm an exclusive pumper who runs the machine approximately 6 to 7 hours per day. I initially had a Medela Pump in Style that worked beautifully for a year before it died abruptly and I needed another pump asap. Got my first Spectra directly from my doctor's office and was very happy with how it fixed the clogs I was developing from my last failing pump. A month later, however, and I noticed the same declining suction I was getting with the old Medela

This time I scoured the internet for troubleshooting tips and replaced all the possible parts that could be failing along with focusing on my stress level which is a huge factor for me

Good for what it is, but not made to last

The difference was night and day. I think hospital grade pumps are not only more powerful, but the suction cycles in a different pattern. With the Spectra, only my nipples moved in and out even at high suction.

Has anyone here used the symphony to boost supply? And if so is it effective? My pump output is decreasing everyday at work and I want to rent one to be more effective.
