I’m not sure how old your baby is, but for the first few months you cannot skip pumps because that’s how your breasts regulate supply and even after that you can’t skip pumps regularly or you are sending a signal to your breasts to slow down milk production. Many babies start to go longer between feeds, but mine never did so I’m not sure when that is supposed to happen. Eventually once baby is older the number of times they nurse will change, they get bigger and have an easier time latching, you start solid food.

Honestly, and I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but the first couple months I didn’t really go anywhere. If we went for a walk or something I did that between pumps. Once when we went on a 2 hour road trip to meet family I pumped in the car while my husband drove. As the title says how do you ever manage to leave the house when you have to pump every 2-3hrs? I'm still trying to get breastfeeding going because my son has problems latching and so i'm pumping but how do you ever get to leave the house? If you have to pump every 2-3hrs it doesn't leave you much time to go anywhere or do anything. How do you go to friends/family's house? The mall? The park? etc?     If you are one of those moms who can fill a bottle in 10 minutes this might be the right product for you.    The handle is nice because you can use one side the “smaller” handle to stimulate a letdown and the larger handle to stimulate removal from your babe.   Since its Medela, the bottles and parts are interchangeable to their electronic pumps accessories.   I like that feature so you don’t need to buy different flanges, bottles, and white membranes/yellow valves

I don’t know about increasing supply, but I have rented a Medela Symphony for exclusive expressing for 6 months ( aka spend A LOT OF TIME PUMPING) and think its brilliant - efficient, so quiet, so functional - with a pumping bra to go hands free, its like you have the Rolls Royce of breast pumps.  If you will be spending hours at any pump, I would recommend this one.

Has anyone here used the symphony to boost supply? And if so is it effective? My pump output is decreasing everyday at work and I want to rent one to be more effective.

I broached the subject of electric pump. But she doesn't want one. Her thinking is try direct breastfeeding and if need be, supplement it with formula milk in bottles. 

She doesn't work - she will be a stay-at-home mom.

How important is pump? Do you think it will make our experience of feeding any easier?
