Went into my local Guitar Center the other day and found a used Sire Marcus Miller V7 for $420. I'd never heard of it but holy hell it rocked. By far the best sub $1k bass I've ever played.

Was looking for something more trebly and melodic than my Precision. Went to the store, tried some basses. Didn't know much about the Marcus Miller Sire basses, but fell in love immediately. The guy at the store even said "I could tell you liked that one", because I was jamming on it for quite some time haha.

Are Harley Benton bass guitars good?

I played basses too, and the feel and experience is pretty much the same. The Harley Benton Enhanced stuff is probably almost on the same page as the Sire Marcus Miller M7, (which I had, and even that with double the price is still good value) and an absolute no-brainer imo.

Consider a Sire Marcus Miller bass. Amazing value and playability. I’ve been ignoring my Dingwall a lot since picking up a V5 on a whim.

Trying to decided between the Cort A5 Plus and Ibanez SR505

Cort are always prettier then Ibanez in my opinion. I was struggling with this guitars too and I finally chose Sire Marcus Miller v7 2nd gen and i'm happy as fk 🤤 the neck is very comfortable because of round frets and preamp have 7 knobs.

What is the best 6 string bass under £800?

Sire M7 6 string is a bit more than your target price, but worth way more in my opinion.

Six string Schecter stiletto is pretty cool, and around your target price.

Ibanez SR506 is also nice, and should be under your target price.

Marcus Miller M7 2nd gen TBL, the 5 stringed version. I'm in love with that bass! I just have to work for a few months to buy it..

It's such a good bass and on the used market absolute bang for a buck. Feels, plays and sounds great. As a beginner it's always good having a friend who can see if the frets are too rocked off or if the truss rod is stripped. I learned that with other instruments.

I really wanted a Yamaha 605 for a while but I finally ended up with a Sire M7. I'm not even sure how :-) I saw it on reverb locally, tried it and ended up ordering one. I think the thing offers tremendous value with all the features and flexibility it has but I haven't played a lot of other basses and I adapt pretty quickly to things.
