Seiko 5 SNK809: Everything You Need to Know
Absolutely!. The Seiko 5 SNK809 is a total steal for its’ price. For about $70, you get an automatic that is well-made, and despite its let-down straps, isn’t horrid-looking either

[Hamilton Broadway] Graduation gift from my parents.
I got into watches at the start of my freshman year, and picked up a SNK809 after drooling over all the posts on r/Watches. Four years later, I’m now graduating and off to my dream university to study engineering, still loving the seiko. My parents wanted to celebrate this accomplishment with a new watch, and have been poking around to see what I was interested in.

Great little watch
Purchased this watch back in 2013, it had an easy first couple of years. Then wore it through US Army Infantry basic training. The watch never left my wrist, drug it through mud and muck, water, sweat, tears, banged it around on a tile floor whilst doing pushups. Broke a springbar putting on a rucks...

[Seiko 5 SNK809] Picked Up My first Automatic
My Timex Waterbury Chrono died recently after two years. I'm not much of a watch buff, but saw a Russian flieger-style on eBay that I loved the look of but was suspect about quality, especially when a return meant shipping it halfway around the globe. Came here looking for recommendations - ended up finding the SNK809 which looked like the ticket! Arrived a little while ago, and while it's a fair bit smaller than I expected based on wrist photos online I'm used to it now.
Had it for two years +
Every day watch. I am in construction, and am very rough on watches. Still looks great. Winding mechanism works flawlessly. Maybe once a week, I’ll reset to my cell phone, but its never off by more than a minute or two.

[Seiko SARB033] My first “nice” watch!
OP here, got into watches about a year ago and since then I have collected a few cheaper pieces, such as an Orient Bambino, an Orient Ray 2, a Seiko SNK809 and a G-Shock. With an important milestone in my life coming up though, my gf and I decided it was time to spend a little bit more to celebrate the occasion. Spent a few weeks trying to decide between a few watches, all in the 500 to 800 euros price range, and finally pulled the trigger on this beauty. I am already in love, can’t wait to put it on a nice leather strap.

[Seiko] My Two Watch Collection
The SNK809 is usually combined with a leather or NATO strap, but I prefer the metal. I use the SNXG47 for work and formal occasions, and the SNK809 for casual wear. I purchased the SNXG47 for around $60 on eBay, and the SNK809K1 for around $85 on eBay. I think Seiko is the Rolex of budget watches.
