Nikon Monarch M7

Our friends had an older Nikon Monarch (not 100% sure which one, it just said Nikon Monarch), which I tried and liked. In the store, they had the Monarch 5 and 7, and I much preferred the field of view of the 7, so purchased that. On arriving home I found the M7 had been released, so I ordered the M7 on discount for $400 and returned the 7. In use, I can tell you that the M7 is a significant step up from the other optics we have, including other Monarchs, Monarch 5, and various other smaller binoculars.

I returned this item AT MY OWN EXPENSE because of the following: performance was no better than my pair of 40 year old Herter's; right eye adjustment was difficult and stiff to turn; the top lens cap was difficult to remove the first time and subsequently fell off whenever the binoculars were moved....

Next I needed something even lighter and smaller to complement the HG and bought the Nikon Monarch M7 8x30 (newest version, not the monarch 7). Why am I writing my binocular history? In the end the monarch M7 8x30 would be all I need. It’s the perfect mix between monarch HG and diamondback HD.

Love the view from these binoculars, the details are spectacular. The only concern I have is that I'm uncomfortable with the separation of the lenses for me to get a "full" view through the lenses. I am using the new Nikon Monarch M7 8x42’s for birding. They have a wide FOV and are weather proof and not too heavy, for some light hiking. I would also take a look at the Vortex Diamondbacks or the Vipers as well.

Very good optics. Sharpness and clarity excellent for all viewing - both up close and distant. Good case and strap with lens caps for eyepieces as well as the opposite side.

Just got a set of Leupold BX-4 10x42's for $375, is that a good deal compared to the quality of these binoculars?

My other choice would have been the Nikon Monarch M7 or the Vortex Viper HD.

Loved the Nikon quality! The locking diopter works great once you get used to it, license plates and house numbers are crisp and easy to read from a block and a half away, my other binoculars don’t come near the clear sharp image I get with the monarch M7 , these will be my go to binoculars when out...

I'd recommend vortex vipers, nikon monarch m7, and athlon cronus uhd. Check the b&h photo used section for good deals.
