I recently purchased Nikon Monarch HG binoculars. Other Nikon products I've purchased in the past made me comfortable buying again, but the reasons I went for the HGs are because they are made in Japan and have field flatteners.

What are you guys using for birding?

I've been interested in observing and identifying birds most of my life, but have recently decided to pursue the avocation more intensively and needed a better pair of binoculars. This is the first set of binos I've ever purchased that cost over about $100, and the difference is impressive. These have excellent field of view, no discernible chromatic distortion and are a joy to use.

A nice set of binoculars. These binoculars have one of the largest fields of view available. They work surprisingly well for close in work and for medium distance subjects as well. They are a standard in a sea of binoculars

 The ed glass is spectacular. The eye relief is amazing. It is important to set the eye pieces extension to the farthest extent if using bare eye balls. The depth of field is generous and helps with quick acquisition of your target such as a little bird

A magnificent set of binocculars

These were my birthday present to myself this summer, and are totally worth it! My dad has an older and smaller pair of Nikon binoculars, and I've always been a fan of Nikon optics products, so I was excited to try a pair of Monarchs. After researching and reading every review I could find online, I decided that the price difference between this binocular and the Monarch 3 and 5 was worth it. I have absolutely no regrets and can't believe how amazing these are! I can literally see gnats flying in my neighbors yard from over 50 yards away. They are incredible in low-light conditions and I have used them until after sunset on multiple occasions, seeing better than my own eyes for much longer

 I wear glasses with a low distance prescription, but haven't needed them when using these binoculars, although the eye piece adjustment for glasses does work well. I love the strap and case, they feel very sturdy, and the binoculars themselves definitely have a very solid weight to them. I'm mostly using them for birding and watching wildlife, but they're great for sporting events as well! Overall a great investment to my growing collection of outdoor gear.

 I have no regrets. The 7 is much brighter and the detail is so much better than the Monarch 5 that now I prefer to use the 7's. Yes they are more expensive and if you didn't have the 2 to compare you would be perfectly happy with the Monarch 5s. So it comes down to $ and do you want the best or can you live with good

I returned this item AT MY OWN EXPENSE because of the following: performance was no better than my pair of 40 year old Herter's; right eye adjustment was difficult and stiff to turn; the top lens cap was difficult to remove the first time and subsequently fell off whenever the binoculars were moved. Returning this item was costly due to its weight and Amazon covers only $3.99 of a $30 shipping expense. Better to go to a store where you can assess the item you wish to buy without being penalized for returning it
