Your best bet there IMHO is the Nikon Aculon 8x42 porro, which has better build quality and a better warranty than the Celestron. Check the Nikon website, which regularly offers various models in factory refurbished condition. [The 8x40 Aculon is ~$70 there right now. There's also a 7x35 and a 10x50 if you prefer those sizes.

this is a great buy ! i was shopping for 10x42 specifically to use for hunting and boating.they maintain focus very well.I have yet to bounce them around ,but the plastics look like they'll stand up to a little rough and tumble.For the price you just can't beat the quality

So: The Nikon Aculon should do fine if you're going to use these inside much of the time, where the differences in size, weight, and waterproofing don't matter much. It's one of the few recommendable bins at ~$100.

Took me a bit to get used to, but they are pretty nice. Don't use them as much as I thought I would, but there's no regrets in buying. If you want a pair, you can't go wrong with these for the price!

Monoculars are a PITA and don't save all that much on either cost or weight (fewer made, fewer sold, less economy of scale). At $100, your best bet is a decent basic porro like the Nikon Aculon 7x35 or 8x42. Stay with a major brand. The cheap ephemeral brands you'll see in online stores often get very little quality control.

What you get are high quality Nikon optics in a lightweight economical housing for a very good price. If you want a higher quality fog proof, water resistant housing you will have to spend about twice as much. If you want better optics you will have to pay a lot more for only slightly better optics....

It sounds like you have Nikon Aculon. I doubt there's any easy math for finding FOV at the long end because the zoom optics add complexity that will interact with FOV.

I'm a newbie here (and binoculars, in general), but I just bought a Nikon Aculon 10x50 for $100. I'm amazed at how much more I can see in the night sky.
