Nikon Monarch 5 vs Nikon Monarch M7

It's a personal thing for me about the 8.2 ft close focus distance. Caps are a minor, physical problem with the binocular accessories! Bino's themselves are worth every penny!

nice binoculars,had a chance to field test and the image is crisp and clear for the money,great field of view with these binoculars,i hope they stand up over time,thumbs up

I'm an avid outdoorsman and have been wanting to get into bird watching, hunting, and just general exploring/tracking of animals. I have never had a good set of binos but have had a couple of \~$30 ones. My dad knew I was looking to get a good pair and he did a bunch of research which landed him on the Monarch 5.

On arriving home I found the M7 had been released, so I ordered the M7 on discount for $400 and returned the 7. In use, I can tell you that the M7 is a significant step up from the other optics we have, including other Monarchs, Monarch 5, and various other smaller binoculars.

Viewing the Orion region with either binocular is an inspiring experience, but more so with the Bushnell’s larger FOV. Image brightness of the Nikon and the Bushnell, as judged by the ability to see faint stars in the Orion region, is the same. Unless the Nikon name, lower weight, compactness and close focus are over-riding considerations, the Bushnell, at 30% of the prize of the Nikon, is the much better deal.

I returned this item AT MY OWN EXPENSE because of the following: performance was no better than my pair of 40 year old Herter's; right eye adjustment was difficult and stiff to turn; the top lens cap was difficult to remove the first time and subsequently fell off whenever the binoculars were moved. Returning this item was costly due to its weight and Amazon covers only $3.99 of a $30 shipping expense. Better to go to a store where you can assess the item you wish to buy without being penalized for returning it
